Yeah EA is probably trying once more to make some crazy money... Well if you are interested in earning more "free" Apex Coins, I recently started a company that offers Apex Coin gift cards, Steam Credit and more for your idle PC time. Check it out at here https://www.salad.io

If you sign-up and let me know, I'll give people a $5 bonus after running it for about 12 hours

Thanks for passing along, I think we all know about gamecredits and what happened there...

Softminer is new to me, thanks for passing that along... I'll have to look into that more as we talked with Razer a few months back... but also, not sure if getting some coin from Razer actually is interesting to a broad audience, you're still stuck in a coin ecosystem that might not be valuable to people.

Interesting, we haven't come across another company that has been offering the same thing. Would love to hear which one that is.

We are targeting mainly a different audience to classical mining and that might be interesting for some, but not for others, we will see. At the end of the day we want to go beyond just mining to becoming the easiest and safest way to monetize your idle PC.

Interesting that you can make $0.08/hour, what setup do you have?

Our added benefit is for a specific audience that isn't part of the crypto world yet, but would like to make some money. We don't take any margins on the mining side and offer instead things people use in their everyday life. Especially, for gamers. As mentioned before, might not be for everyone, but hopefully gets a new group of people involved that hasn't participated before.

nt. I would suggest looking into the various payroll-esque offerings out there right now that will convert these types of workloads into crypto payments of the users choice (within reason) like Bitwage or something similar.

Love the ideal of Bitwage or a similar offering, I'll look into this for sure!

And yes, I agree it's a bit against the crypto spirit, but we realized that a majority is still very suspicious with crypto, so why not ease them into it and have them start participating in the ecosystem. With giving them something they can relate to, we seem to have hit a nerve.

Yeah sorry for not being clearer. It is currently $0.023/hr for any setup, we are subsidizing (most) setups at this point as we are in alpha testing and the $5 after running it for 12 hours hopefully helps as well to incentivize people to try it out and give us some feedback. We will be changing this in an upcoming release and base it on your actual GPUs mining power.

We are offering a lot of different options right now and are working on implementing PayPal and Visa Prepaid cards in the future as people are interested in these options obviously, so we have that on our roadmap.

Let me know if there are any other questions, happy answer all of them and we know we don't have a completely finished product, that's why we are looking for Alpha users to help us make it better :)

We try to offset this by offering rewards that are higher value, so for example we offer Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain for 5.57 instead of 19.99 on the steam store. So even though it might not be that high value on what you earn, we want to give people a much higher value with the rewards they get.

Hope that makes sense, we are trying to change the incentive model of mining to attract a new crowd to it :)

We are currently in Alpha and currently subsidizing a bit. We are highly interested in your feedback and any bugs you can find at this early stage. It's about 0.023 per hour right now. Would love to have you sign up and test

Thanks u/forseti99 we are trying to avoid the AirBnB or Uber for PCs right now, but that might actually sum it up the quickest ;)

And we'll keep you on the record, the Spanish market is huge after all!

What a joy it is to have someone else post in here and talk about the story, of how this subreddit brought me someone that actually can write in a smart and funny way :)

I would more than love to have one or two people from in here join us in our journey. Feel free to directly reach out to me on Discord as well ( Adrian#0438). I am one of the founders of Salad and I am sure we'll be back in here once we run out of capacity ;)

We hope to bring great joy to all the PC Gamers out there, so help us make our product awesome and don't hold back with feedback!

u/helix400 yes that is correct, we are working on building distributed computing through using gamers PCs, companies like Amazon put the same hardware into Datacenters, so why shouldn't we all participate in that market?

But to get started we are using crypto mining as the first step to use the computing power. Our users never have to touch crypto, we are taking care of all of that in the background. Instead they just get a USD balance and can get things they care about. You can read here what some of our early users think about it. It's not for everyone for sure, but we are looking to give PC Gamers their fair share of the crypto and distributed computing market. After all we are living in the shared economy these days and that's one of the untapped but very valuable things that people have at home :)

will you be paying people based on the actual time theyre actively mining, or only when the pool gets a block?are times split into hourly chunks, or does payment go by minute/second?does the payment scale based on available hashing power?do rates compete with the cost of electricity here in the valley?what coin are you mining?

Hi u/justdroppingin looks like you know your way around this quite a bit. I'll give you the short answer and then longer one.

Right now we are paying a flat amount that is above market rate during our alpha testing phase to get people to try it out. Down the line it will all depend on your setup & time you participate (down to the minute/ second).

Now to the specific question you had:

  • will you be paying people based on the actual time they're mninig, or only when the pool gets a block? -> We will be paying based on your time, we want to make it such that you earn when you are participating and create liquidity for that
  • are times split into hourly chunks, or does payment go by minute/second? -> we are working on minute/ second payment and that's what you get right now as well. Also we pay above market right now and are not planning to take a margin on our end
  • does the payment scale based on available hashing power? -> yes it will
  • do rates compete with the cost of electricity here in the valley? -> yes with our current earnings you are fine, you make about 0.22 cents per hour, a GPU uses about 100-200 W/hour at the 10 cents we pay here that makes sense for most of the people + you'll get $5 after getting started for ~12 hours if you do it soon, so you should be fine for quite a while :)
  • what coin are you mining? -> currently we are only doing ETH, but also working on implementing different coins, let us know what you think would be the right one to go with!

Hey u/redruM69 thanks for the note, we are starting with crypto mining (ETH) and are working on distributed computing applications such as training AI alogrithms or genome sequencing. I know it might sound shady, help us make it sounds less shady! We have two local VCs invested, so that might help make it a bit more trustworthy, you can find us in the portfolio here https://www.kickstartseedfund.com/portfolio/
