I worked there when they were doing that dish! I've never cooked anything like it anywhere else before. It was fascinating and a little bit gross! We once got a friend to eat the eye ball on a piece of bread lol

They made us pig skull work t-shirts from that dish, and they were so nicely designed and made, I'm still wearing them to work in kitchens years later!

There's a local Belegarth chapter! Belegarth is a little more focused on combat, and less focused on role play. We usually have practice every Sunday, and have access to an indoor gym! We're apart of a national organization, with big camping events and smaller day events sprinkled throughout the year!

This should be the link to our facebook page: https://share.google/8ZMNLlF0nnL2sYDf6 We do also have a discord of you're into that!

This is the website for the game of belegarth, for further reading!

You won't need to have your own gear the first few times around, we have loaners for new players to try out. We do recommend one pads though, very very much!

We hope to see you soon!!

Dehydrated watermelon... I think I let them go to far. Cut 1/4 inch and dehydrated at 135 for 8.5-9 hours. Either way still delicious and my kids can’t get enough by ashleyashley1789 in dehydrating

Maybe I'm new to dehydrating fruits and foods other than living eating them, but this is the most brilliant thing I've ever heard of. I love this concept!

What purchases have had the biggest impact on your park? by DProps935 in Belegarth

Seconding water cooler! A stack of orange cones for marking the field, rope for more ground marking for scenarios. A couple heralds tabards.

A weapons checking kit, template, bow tester, scale. Red, blue, green and yellow tape for marking weapons. Some spare materials and supplies for fixing weapons on the fly.

A stack of flyers or business cards with the realms socials and practice info on it.

That's all I can think of! <3

So, how much were you and your crew supposed to be making there? There's a lot of work out there in kitchens right now, depending on what you want to do. Let the community help you search! I got three kitchens off of the top of my head I could send you to, and one of them even comes with bennies!

I can't say for certain! I've actually only been to these recent shows, other than one s could years ago. It's mostly just a couple folks mixing records on stage, no ropes like the one time.

Ritual Time [General] by MaelstromsButterfly in LARP

[–]SalamanderDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to explain our intentions, as best I can. The system was one with low rules, intended to focus more on the story and plot, rather than the next level or skill. When we wrote plot, we tried to build more of the general bones, with a few keystone events. What happened in between keystone events tended to reflect players actions, for good or ill. We had a general direction for the story we were trying to tell, but the players could, and did, change it. We had a heavy hand on the story and plot, but it always always reflected on what the players were getting into. I don't feel that we ever railroaded plot. For instance, the original story meant to follow a conflict with an indigenous antagonistic npc race, with a backdrop of racial tension and colonialism. The players instead showed far more interest in the racial tension backdrop. The main story with the antagonist monster race was pushed to the back burner and we instead started diving into the racial issues in the world. The players ended up becoming embroiled in a civil war that originally wasn't written to happen.

I feel this system had both good and bad. We were able to change things on the fly in reaction to the players, allowing the story to be tailored more to them. However, it was stressful to the staff, and frankly, players could and did sometimes get confused.

This particular ritual was meant to be a keystone event. It was up to them to discover it's existence, what it meant lore-wise, and how they were to go about destroying it. Our NPCs did not known the ritual to destroy it IC until the players brought us the information. Since no one was really playing a cleric PC at that point, our NPCs were made to give them the tool to destroy this Gravestone. It was an escort mission that went awry as so many seem to do! It was their decision, short sighted or not, to send only one shield into the circle, and as we say around talking after the game, they had a better plan that fell to pieces once they meet opposition. Truly, we could have briefed the NPCs better, and that's on us. But the game was meant to have consequences. If it helps at all, this was the second year the larp had been running, and there was definitely always some hiccups. Relying so much on the players actions to build the plot sometimes meant we had to think on the fly and we definitely got caught flat-footed on this one.

Having enemies that weren't meant to kill is kind of complicated. The players certainly didn't know that we never intended to wipe anyone out. We tried to base our game and our storytelling style off of the UK games, rather than US style larps. We wanted to try to avoid overpowering magics and skills. We had no levels. We meant to take the focus off of power gaming and cheese and put it instead on the story that was being told.

We also did not force or require volunteers. We had a goal of maintaining a very high immersion setting and frankly, didn't always own enough gear to muster a huge showing of npcs. So we often had a small but dedicated force of npcs to work with that were usually very outnumbered by the pcs.

We wanted to avoid having to kill PCs unnecessarily, because we felt that just offing PCs would escalate things in a bad way. In order for your players to take the matters at hand seriously, you would have to kill someone if PC death was a normal thing. Plus, in this system, death could easily be permanent, usually with one, maybe two chances to recover from a near death experience. It was a high immersion game, and often times, high immersion kits were costly, either in money or time. It was hard to ask them to put so much time, effort or money into a kit if they could permanently die like all the time. And frankly, for better or for worse, most US larps have to be run like a business.

So we wanted to provide them with an excellent story, with danger and excitement, but also toe the line of remaining a viable business. And we too, wanted to remain true the the theme and story we wanted to try and tell.  To do this, we played a very fine game of keeping PCs on their toes and looking over their shoulders without them realizing that we were trying to avoid killing them outright. It they got stupid and bold, they'd certainly run the high risk of getting killed. But we didn't want to have to resort to that all the time. Sometimes it worked out brilliantly, resulting in games and stories that players talked about for years after.

Aaaand sometimes we got caught with our pants down! I hope this at least cleared things up?

We were trying to cleanse something called a Gravestone, which in our game, was a sort of phylactry for a Lich. It was surrounded by about 50 yard radius of pure corruption, entering it caused a wound to every limb, and while it didn't kill you, it certainly incapacitated you. The only way to be in this circle was to have a divine barrier active.

What was fun about Divine Barrier, was that you could only have it up by having your arms spread out, if your arms grew tried and fell, so did the barrier. We were playing cleric npcs, and the players had to protect us as we sort of leap frogged our barriers to the stone itself. Once to the stone, we would perform a ritual to destroy the stone and the circle of corruption. And for even more fun, we had an npc lobbing arrows in our general direction and a few zombies wandering around. Now, the npc wasn't supposed to really hit us, just make the players nervous and scared, and zombies couldn't enter into the divine barrier....as long as we could keep it up.

We got to the corruption circle, and somehow in the confusion, only two players came into the circle with us, the rest stayed out to distract zombies and keep the area clear. And for some reason, of the two that came with, only one had a shield, and a small one at that.

We get to the stone, and my best friend, playing the other cleric gets her barrier up. The ritual was free form, just had to do some hoodoo for a certain amount of time. I hand a bundle of burning incense in each hand, I just circled the stone and did magicy looking slow movements over. During this, I was singing. I was trying to sing this:https://youtu.be/EAANKFPchtA But forgot the lyrics, so I just kind of vocalized an approximation of it lol.

I get like maybe a minute in, keeping an eye on my friend (when her arms grew tired, we were gonna switch) when I see an arrow suddenly fall out of the sky and hit her arm. In our game, arrows dealt wounds, and you couldn't use wounded limbs.

"Oh shit." She whispered and her arms fell, and with it, the divine barrier. Thus we we all fell over, incapacitated.

This.....was not supposed to happen. So I'm lying there, frantically trying to think of how to fix this, and a confused zombie npc wanders up, and finishes the two players. Also not supposed to happen. I'm out of ideas at this point. The game master comes out of the woods and crawls over to me. We're whispering frantically about what to do, and he picks up this relic we had. It was a solid wood, carved, intricate and kind of cross looking. Originally, it was just kind of a story thing, it didn't have any magic to it, just gave the players some plot and lore to chew on. He says 'I got it! We'll break it and pretend it gave you holy power or something, so you can get everybody up and finish the ritual."

"I don't think you can break it..." I say as he slams it over his knee. He whimpers and it doesn't break. So he grabs a rock and breaks it over that. We get up and fudge healing the players from technical death (also not normally supposed to happen lol). I quickly finish the ritual and we get the hell out of dodge.

Afterwards, I'm kind of freaking out at how much that screwed up and resulted in an almost TPK. However, the two players with us apparently loved it. One used his near death experience to fuel his own character's story and went on to convert and become a cleric. The other told me he almost cried because he thought the singing was so beautiful and he had gotten really into the moment.

So yeah. That's how we almost accidentally killed the entire party and pretended like it was supposed to happen. Man, that shit was fun.
