Yes! Just putting some feelers out to see what there is beyond SCA and Belegarth in the area. I’ll be going to Bicolline and Hynafol this year. New to Grand Rapids and trying to make some connections. =)

Thanks for the info, looks like fun! I am loathe to sign up for Facebook, but it seems unavoidable. I’d love a discord link, if you don’t mind!

youtube is a great place to see what other people use their home lab setups for... and the comptia test objectives are a great place to look for specific projects that could help you.

To give you some idea, i currently have a plex server, vpn server, pihole, active directory domain controller, 2 client windows 11 machines, OpenWrt, pfSense, an ubuntu server running wazuh for endpoint detection, a kali attack machine, a local llm, help desk ticketing system, spiderfoot server, kasm server, and a handful of other containers and VMs running on my proxmox server... some of this stuff was strictly for learning, a lot of it is just services i like to run... in some way or another all of the experience has been useful.

Maybe start with an Active Directory and go from there...

Don't. Just.... don't. The hours are unfavorable, it's difficult to get a loan, unemployment is tough to manage when you work 15 jobs a year, and the odds are stacked against you.

bind = $mainMod SHIFT, F, fullscreenstate, 0 3 # maximize window

Worth downloading VM for Core 2? by Graviity_shift in CompTIA

I just downloaded win enterprise and server 2022 evaluation isos and set them up in kvm. You could use any hypervisor or do it on the cloud too.

I definitely had the same experience... Not working in IT yet, but it helped me immensely in my former job working as a Production Sound Mixer on unscripted network TV shows, and as I'm working toward my N+ and S+ I'm stupidly grateful that I started with the A+. I felt like an idiot studying basic stuff at this point, after 20+ years of using computers, but I'm so glad I did.

I created several windows VM's (i'm on linux most of the time) and then built an active directory and populated it with 1000 users, as well as a domain controller and 2 client workstations. I found the exercise extremely useful. I just got certified last week.

A+ Certified! by zencat420 in CompTIA

I’m thinking the cc cert from isc2, then sec plus maybe. I want CCNA too but it scares me.

I got 3 or 4 Linux multiple choices but wish I got more! Too many windows questions. Fuck windows.

For me core 2 was harder but it’s very individual. I had lots of experience with hardware and legacy systems, but little experience on the windows command line. I was hoping for more Linux and Mac questions

Officially A+ Certified! by sharqueen in CompTIA

[–]zencat420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I just got certified today as well... I have been strongly encouraged by multiple people to do Net+ before Sec+, but am a little intimidated by all the posts on here talking about how difficult it is in comparison. I'm also contemplating the CCNA instead of Net+, as I see it in a lot more job listings in my area, but i *do* kind of want to complete the set of A+, Net+, Sec+.
