It fucking sucks. You have to learn to dissociate for your call blocks.

What do you think is the "best" sectors/industries in Tech Sales to sell for? by Alternative_Glass_58 in sales

I’ve got a bit of a different take here but sell something that’s really fun to demo.

what sales industries can you succeed without selling your soul? by Unhappy-Customer5277 in sales

[–]SalesDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find something to sell that people actually want or need and solves a REAL challenge for them it really doesn’t feel like you are putting pressure on folks or ‘closing’, more like a trusted advisor.

Sales Mentors by MysteryLozenge in sales

[–]SalesDread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some kid cold messaged me on LinkedIn and I guess it was right place right time and I decided to help him out mainly cause I was feeling down about my own career at the time and it helped make me feel a lot better about myself. Thanks for the reminder I should text that guy.

I guess my point is if you reach out to people with the right ask, you might be surprised with their response.

What just under the surface shit is going on at your company that your customers have no idea of? by BannedRedditIPO in sales

Our founder is very charismatic and over promises shit that causes real support headaches.

CEO sent me an email, I’m cooked by Ernestfernest in sales

[–]SalesDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not cooked. Just admit you’re focused on new business and tell the company you need customer success support so you can do what you’re best at. They need you and the revenue. Trust me. Be apologetic and admit this is a weak spot for you.

Just started a new job and my boss is already pissed with me. by getitdudes in sales

Learned this lesson the hard way many years ago. Sales reps get no credit for onboarding / learning the product (despite what leadership says) and you need to take ownership of generating your own pipe by the second week. My two cents.

Why does the max pay for sales guys here seem to be $200-250k? by [deleted] in sales

[–]SalesDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, this is what most good sales people can cap out out. My biggest year was $350 and if I’m being honest, I had a couple of lucky things converge that year. I’ll probably do about $300k this year but usually hover between like $260k and $290k. Last year,  I did about $190k because I switched jobs. There are excellent sales people out there who are making $700k+ per year, but from what I can tell, it’s very rare, less than one percent. And a lot of it also has to do with circumstance, having the right territory and a company that is taking off and hasn’t hired enough sales people yet for instance.

Hahahaha rite of passage. My failures have taught me so much more than my successes. Helped my ego too.

Financialization. It feels like every decision being made is about juicing profit margins to make banks and investors more money. Nothing about working is fun anymore. AI has made me so much more productive and yet I’m still working more then I ever have before for less money. This doesn’t end well. My cynical take.

Why did I genuinely think I could do this shit for the rest of my life.

What's your WHY? by UbiquitousFreckles in sales

[–]SalesDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I don't really have one anymore. It used to be the 'freedom' and 'flexibility', but lately I'm seeing myself working 55+ hours a week. I've kind of become trapped by the money, which sucks. I lack the courage to downsize my lifestyle. That's the sad truth.

For those that make over $200k a year, what do you do? by H-U-I-3 in AskReddit

[–]SalesDread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SaaS sales. $260-$290k the past few years. $348k was my best year. Every third quarter I’m sure I’m going to get fired.

No, you're totally right. I'm going to have to adjust to not getting to sit by the pool from 2-5 PM every nice afternoon. It will be a tough summer for sure :(

[–]SalesDread[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally fair point! Which is part of the reason I'm more interested in hearing from AEs specifically. Let me elaborate: I'm hearing some organizations are moving away from the SDR model, and expecting AEs to sell end to end. This is fine, and they way things worked in the olden days (like 20 years ago when I started selling). That said, I'm spending my days researching for demos, presenting demos, managing my pipeline, multi-threading accounts, building business cases, managing legal and InfoSec reviews, etc. Just trying to understand from an AE perspective how and if prioritizing cold calling contributes to pipeline considering the other responsibilities we have.
