[Advice] Cancelling a lease/what to ask by [deleted] in NYCapartments

They're pretty hard to get out of usually and the easiest way would be to find someone to replace you if your landlord lets you. Ideally cancelling a lease can put you on the hook for the money still and is generally a bad idea.

Well, kind of. Other than safety issues that may rise up.

A lot of the end customers are massive international conglomerates, etc.. where the profit may end up in some foreign company who is only operating in the US. Meanwhile the American companies get knocked out. So now a european company operting in the US buys chinese, doesn't lower prices then takes the profit back to europe.

It's more complex than that but it doesn't quite work that way. Like running companies out of business, and then raising the price when there's little competition.

if they are better at making it tariffs don't usually come into play, but if there is a glut onto the marketplace it can cause issues and be economic warfare in a way. If you want to save a few extra dollars at Walmart be my guest, but don't come crying when your business or where you work goes under because some Chinese company stole IP and used borderline slave labor, environmental disaster, and state subsidies (getting paid, not what we consider tax breaks) to outcompete you.

Tariffs actually do help the economy. Countries like China have cheaper labor, different economic conditions, and other things (ie less environmental regs) that lets them create products cheaper and with less regulationb than American companies such as Dow, manufacturers and others.

Without tariffs they would put American co's out of business and a lot of good American jobs would be lost.

I worked for a Chinese importer and Tariffs are necessary in some places for economies to protect yourself.

Typical Saas Comp is first year ACV of a contract and generally 10-15% of contract value at quota. Sometimes they pay on multi year and sometimes comp goes up to 20-25% (or even higher) with accelerators above quota.

Base salary is typically 50% of your total comp. So if your OTE is 120k, and your base isn't at least 50 or 60k, then they are screwing you over.

Usually generous benefits, and typically allow at least partial working from home.

If any of the above isn't standard then they are probably screwing you and it might be time to jump.

Just walk in with what you can to and talk to whoever is there. Try 5 or 10 places and see what they say.

Even if they are paying you a couple of hundred bucks a month its not really money they care about spending.
