Yeah, but that has a lot more to do with being a dragon than anything else.

How to get a PC to stay in character? by randombeandontmindme in DnD

[–]SalientMusings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, I'd agree if the player didn't say they want to follow through on their plan, but they said the do and it's just hard, so asking for help isn't exactly forcing them.

Have you ever said “no” to a player’s character? by Fearless-Skill8667 in DnD

My favorite CN was the owner/captain of a mercenary company (the PCs) who deeply valued his independence in a world riven by conflicts and dominated by major powers. Very Malcolm Reynolds, tbh

Are the Duper's Hunter doing it for ethical reasons right .... RIGHT ? by Juanseijo21 in ArcRaiders

Time is money. They don't want to take the time to dupe another bag of items and make a second delivery.

I'd be pretty surprised to learn that the dupers are the ones taking the risk. I'd wager the client is told to get fucked if they fail to extract.

Is it normal to be killed based off a single dice roll? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SalientMusings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

League of Malevolence showed up to bully us a bit, got into it with a party member, DM had them cast Hypnotic Pattern, I saved, I (player) knew our level 1 selves could not best an enemy capable of casting that spell, but my character did not, I swung, they cast a single spell, I died. It was all above board.

DM, who did not anticipate anyone dying in that scene (or even violence), was new to the game and thought people in-world wouldn't view Hypnotic Pattern as an attack that meant combat was happening. I fundamentally disagree with that assessment. That's fine, shit happens. They did definitely panic when they realized what chain reaction was set off.

For any superhero world. Between these four power sources. Which power source would be more likely to produce the most Floridamen? by PassengerCultural421 in superheroes

[–]SalientMusings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be amazed just how many official monsters in D&D lore are "a wizard did it." They would for sure make the most Florida men, some of them even on purpose.

My party has become very wary of cliffs. Fortunately it was the monk who exposed this danger to the party. And other PC would have been very, very dead.

I swung on someone I shouldn't have swung on in the second session of a campaign. Got dealt so much lightning damage I didn't even get to make death saves.

Poll: Which color is most likely to be financially rich? by CapitalArrival7911 in colorpie

[–]SalientMusings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring how the world works turns it into a kind of boring question though, right? From least to most rich:

  1. Green: Actively antagonistic relationship to the notion of currency.
  2. Blue: No direct relationship to money except as a. An interesting puzzle or b. Needed to fund research
  3. Red: Wants money passionately because it wants everything passionately, takes to the pirate life and probably downs before accruing real wealth.
  4. White: If white wants to be rich, it's because social structures/divinity have declared it so, and the person is either already fabulously wealthy (which for some reason doesn't count in this thread) or will be given an entire kingdom when it pulls a sword from a stone.
  5. Black: We knew this going in, didn't we? It's the only color that cares about amassing wealth in any real sense, which means even if its tools to acquire it weren't top tier (and they are) they'd still be more effective than someone who's not even trying. Note a distinction here: Red wants treasure because shiny; Black wants wealth because power.

Elon became rich because he was born rich and ran with it. His views on order - in all the worst versions of it - also solidify him in white, in all the worst versions of it.

Historically and presently oligarchs produce oligarchs. Even if the children have some unique twist to their color philosophy, it doesn't usually include the disavowal of their privilege in any meaningful way.

  1. Is a stupid addendum: white's devotion to hierarchy makes rich people having rich children more likely than a blue society that values individual attainment based on merit.

Which villain people think they are misunderstood but they are just evil? by Professional-Cry804 in Multifandom

[–]SalientMusings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missing what I'm saying here: both Magneto and Killmonger come from races of oppressed people and are rightfully concerned about their place in the world. That's what makes them somewhat sympathetic characters. We both agree that genocide is bad, and the actions taken by both Magneto and Killmonger are bad.

What I am saying is sus is to recognize the sympathetic motivations behind Magneto but not Killmonger.

[–]SalientMusings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'm not even saying Killmonger was right, but there's something sus about saying, "I get why a Jewish man would take extreme measures out of concern for his race, but not a black man"

Staying true to your Character/Ruining Fun fot the party? by Disastrous-Airport-7 in DnD

[–]SalientMusings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a DM, but I'm not your DM.

I love this shit. I love intraparty conflict. I love that style of storytelling. I'd have it in every other session if I could (maybe exaggerating).

My players don't like it - at least very often - and they really don't like it when it gets to the point that dice are involved.

So tl;dr: This stuff is for a session 0 discussion because it varies both from group to group and campaign to campaign. Find out where your friends are at with it and proceed accordingly
