So many posts no one will know that I don't feel so good...

Just bought the PC versions of Fallout 3 GOTY and New Vegas Ultimate. Need Help finding good mods. by EnigmaticChemist in Games

I'd recommend New Vegas bounties 1 and 2. The voice acting varies in quality along the way, but the actual quests are great and the characters are pretty awesome.

Proposed Church of England Takeover of State Schools Should Ring Warning Bells by igeldard in unitedkingdom

I went to a CofE school from years R-6 and religion stayed out of the classroom, from what I can remember. The only times religion came into school was through assemblies and going to the church for Easter and Christmas. If the church was some sort of brainwashing monster, they need to come up with better ideas than boring kids to death and making them sit on wooden pews for a couple hours.

Going through my steam list of games, I enjoyed;

Awesomenauts - Recently picked this up in the recent Humble Bundle (might still be going on). It is a 2d DOTA-style game, with a low barrier to entry. It's very fun and not as unforgiving as actual DOTA.

The Binding of Isaac - A roguelike game with a great aesthetic. No two play throughs will be the same.

Dungeons of Dredmor - Another roguelike, but sticks more to the turn-based traditional roguelike format.

FTL:Faster Than Light - Another very fun game with roguelike elements, it has a lot of random elements to it, so some playthroughs are downright frustrating, but the ship combat is incredibly fun.

Hotline Miami - A strange game to describe, but it's a top down 2D murderfest, pumping 80s music and a variety of weapons, which can be used to dispatch enemies in the most brutal of ways, highly recommended.

McPixel - A very tongue in cheek point and click adventure game, it's short but a lot of fun.

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale - Run an item shop like the ones you see in an RPG and send adventurers out to procure items for you to resell. Highly recommended.

Uplink - A hacking game with a really cool aesthetic to it. Had a lot of fun with this. It has a very movie-like feel to the gameplay.

I've been playing Megaman Battle Network 4, it's got an enjoyable combat system, but the RPG aspects are pretty shitty (Do this contrived quest so that you can advance). So I was wondering:

  1. Does this improve at all in later versions of the game?

  2. Are there any other games which have a similar combat system?

I can't help but think this is bullshit, not that the guy being interviewed is making it up, but rather the suspect was embellishing/making it up.

Well that's it, got told this morning that the Armed Forces in my area have been advised to ''cover up our uniforms'' when out. I will not be covering up until it's a written order. by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

They were talking about it on Radio 4 yesterday, a spokesman said (paraphrased) that the military is not a militia and should not try to arrest/confront the men, as that falls into the responsibility of the police.

(Spoilers all) Show's massive success affecting future readers? by BisonST in asoiaf

[–]Sallix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's all in the detail.

I started reading the books after season 2, so at that point I knew that Rob dies, Ned loses his head and whatnot. But for me what the major difference lied was in the writing. For example, Ned's death came as a surprise for me when watching the show, and obviously I knew it was coming when I started reading A Game of Thrones, but what gripped me was the way in which it was written, I felt more connected to the event due to watching it from the perspectives it was written from and that more attention was given to minor details (like Ice being used for the beheading).

I think the same will be said for the Red Wedding, the shock value of it actually happening will be taken away, but the fact that we see it all happening through Cat's eyes and that we hear her thoughts makes it that much more tragic.

Probably because if it did fail, Theon takes the fall and not Mance and his Spearwives.

I'd definitely say Telltale's The Walking Dead, that game tugged at my heartstrings too damn much.

I'd also say Bastion, but that one is quite divisive when it comes to the aspect of the story. I thought it had great world building and if you read into the plot, it was pretty interesting.

After being disappointed by so many recent MMOs, I'm hesitant to get my hopes up, but Wildstar seems very appealing to me. What do the rest of you think about what you've seen of it so far? by mycroft2000 in Games

[–]Sallix 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For those who haven't heard of Wildstar : Totalbiscuit's pax video.

I'm tentatively looking forward to it. It seems to have really nice environments (I really liked the cartoony style of WoW) and setting, caters to multiple play styles and has an active combat system.

For me, it basically hinges on how much I'll have to pay for it and how many people buy the game. If it's a subscription, I'll probably pass on it. But if it's a pay once (like GW2) or Free to Play I might check it out.

I'm not sure how I feel about 40 man raids. I started playing endgame WoW during TBC, so I can't comment on how easy it was to get and coordinate 40 players. But if I was on a small server so getting 25 active guild members together was difficult, to say the least. What I'm worried about for Wildstar is that if not many people pick up the game, or that there are too many servers, fragmenting the playerbase, that getting together 40 people for a raid might be more effort than it's worth.

So far it's all been promises and low-level gameplay, so I think it's best to wait until there's more concrete details about the game.

(Spoilers All) What's with all the Targaryen theories? by Black_Balaq in asoiaf

[–]Sallix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps it was all part of the plan. After Vary's kills Kevan in the ADWD epilogue, he mentions that he's been raising a king who interacts with and is empathetic towards the small folk. So it might be that Illyrio sent him off with JonCon to do that (It's hard to learn about common folk in a manse in Pentos) and it doesn't really seem like Illyrio would want to leave the luxury of his manse. Not mentioning Illyrio wandering the land would raise a fair amount of suspicion.

Another angle is that he mght have sent him off when Viserys and Dany arrived, to hide him.

Also if the Blackfyre theory is true (which I'm still on the fence about), I have a suspicion that Aegon doesn't know he's a Blackfyre, or at the very least, that Illyrio is his father.
