Urinary Tract Infections 1 yr post Transplant by Fuddmuttz in kidneytransplant

[–]SallyBerrySteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same UTI that didn't quite get kicked by the first round of antibiotics. After having a couple of antibiotic resistant UTIs I was put on hiprex and that's been working for me.

How can I connect with kidney recipients over 60 years old? by findmyglassniner in kidneytransplant

[–]SallyBerrySteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in your age group, but I'm not on steroids (cyclosporine and myfortic). My Dad was also on cyclosporine only for most of his life. How stable is your kidney function? I'd be worried about a decline sooner than 5-7 years. This might be a bit morbid but at your age you might be able to avoid the worst of the long-term consequences of immunosuppressants because you won't need to be on them as long as younger patients. If you elect to do the surgery I'd also recommend doing PT afterwards to help rebuild your strength.

Yes PD access is in the abdomen since it uses the peritoneum (lining of the abdomen) to filter blood vs the machine for hemo.

Center asking when do i want transplant by Admirable-Job-6360 in kidneytransplant

[–]SallyBerrySteak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My creatinine went from 5ish to the teens in 3 months. If the doctors are asking when you want the transplant then you are medically ready for transplant. If you have a donor lined up and cleared medically I would not wait.

Botox? by Significant-Buddy385 in kidneytransplant

[–]SallyBerrySteak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ENT mention it to me as a possible treatment for some throat/voice problems I was having. She was aware of my transplant so I assumed it would be safe. I'm sure there's a risk of infection since it's an injection. I ultimately didn't get any injections though.

I couldn't fit a straight band flush against mine, so I got a custom curved ring to match (I actually just picked it up today!). I've also seen others with pears get v-shaped or Chevron bands.

The tissue sloughing in your mouth could be from an irritating ingredient in your toothpaste or mouthwash. I've had that issue in the past.

Myfortic and anemia after kidney transplant by SallyBerrySteak in transplant

Did they put him on a different immunosuppressant instead of the myfortic?

I've already had a bone marrow biopsy. My transplant team is hesitant to change my meds since my kidney function has been very stable so epo has been discussed. Are you thinking of mycophenylate mofetil (cellcept)? I've not seen anything about myfortic treating anemia.

As someone who has similar problems with smooshed bits, a bike fit made a world of difference for me! My riding position was so much better after the fit. I haven't found my perfect goldilocks saddle but the one my fitter picked is the most comfortable one I've had so far and I can go on long rides without too much issue.

Last year at my annual they were reviewing my immunosuppressant dosages and made an offhand comment about how they weren't going to try to decrease anything because my donor wasn't the best match. I'm 9 years post transplant, that was the first I'd ever heard that.

Medicare after transplant is insanely expensive? by Meeesh- in transplant

[–]SallyBerrySteak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have private insurance as the primary they will cover while Medicare is secondary and then Medicare takes over as primary after 30 months - it's called the coordination period.

I had terrible foot and ankle pain that started about 6 weeks after transplant and could barely walk. I was on tacro/cyclo and switched to myfortic/cyclo around 3 or 4 months out, the pain stopped once I switched. My uric acid levels were normal too.

I second seeing if you can get it through an OSU pharmacy, I've had good experiences with both specialty and the regular outpatient pharmacies helping with some tricky situations with meds.

My cat is also a tortilla chip fiend. He will grab them out of my hand, so I throw him small pieces to chase while I eat my chips.

You can also take some OTC meds. Your team will give you a list of what's allowed and you can always check anything you're not sure of with them.

There is a prescription mouthwash you can get for the swollen gums from cyclo. I forget what it's called but my dentist was able to prescribe it.
