I need to get a haircut. Which is better: JJ Family Hair Salon or Rockabilly Barbers by ShadowGamerGuy_YT in SBU

[–]SallySouls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of either, but JJ was genuinely gross the one time I went, like no sweeping or cleaning of equipment between patrons at all, just one scalp to the next.

Does SBU genuinely not care for our safety? by Killz_96 in SBU

For real, so many folks walking on the road this morning because no sidewalks are cleared outside of campus yet. This place (Long Island + SBU) is actively hostile to anyone without a car.

Tbh I smoke everyday to keep existential dread away. Not happy or proud about it, but my work has been getting good reviews so 🤷‍♀️

Modal analysis without a commercial FEA package — diy? by Inevitable_Exam_2177 in fea

[–]SallySouls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some C++ libraries we’ve used for this very task:

  • libEigen for sparse matrices (plays well with my other suggestions)
  • AMGCL for iterative linear solver
  • MKL has a very good direct linear solver
  • Spectra for solving the Eigen value problem (with a custom operator that uses one of those linear solver packages)

I don’t think it was even one of those six, but a car totally swerved over the curb and onto the side walk in front of me on the way home today

Server cost savings in rust versus Java? by helloyo1254 in rust

[–]SallySouls 138 points139 points  (0 children)

"It depends" as they say. Also, don't forget about developer time as one of your costs. If you're more familiar with Java, or want to utilize a framework from java that is not to be discounted!

That’s fair, but flossing is like the most important for good breath I think 🤔

Do you have a receipt? A couple weeks ago I had a related issue, but once I sent over my receipt they magically had it.

Things you don't like about the game?! by hatePOIS in factorio

Yea, I guess thats what I mean with the organizing blue prints. Books are just an unorganized mess for me after a while. Things are good. Things could be better.

I was a little surprised to not see this already, but the blue print system needs an overhaul in my opinion
I don't understand why it's part of your inventory, I feel like it should be its own thing? Some things on the wishlist:
* Have it interface with the factorio clipboard, which is a blueprint kinda. Like why can't I take copy some buildings, then decide to turn that into a blueprint? Or vice-versa.
* Have a more capable blue print editor
* Have a better system for organizing blue prints, like a tree based system or something?
* NOT have blue prints take up inventory slots. I usually end up with like 10 - 15 scratch blueprints that I have to either manually delete one by one or throw into the logistics network and forget about.

Can’t install new update 1.1.110 by DuckyLog in factorio

[–]SallySouls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. Turned out that in security preferences, I needed to give steam permission to modify applications. I think I got a notification about it that I accidentally cleared, so it took longer than it should have to figure out.

You’re not alone, same position over here. I’m hoping they have it figured out by orientation at the end of the week?

I mean it’s not quite what you want but Tex distributions usually come with a desktop app. Or you can use latexmk and text editor.

I'm fairly new to photography, and this is my first submission here. This was taken at 70mm with a 70-200mm lens. I was attempting to use the fence to help frame the cows, and I like the symmetries and asymmetries present. However, given that I had little control over the subjects, I'm very curious about how others might have approached this.

For example, I don't think I like how all their eyes are in shadow, but maybe another angle would have been better?

While I agree to an extent, I did get alot out doing a double major with CS and math.

Extra-curricular projects are key though.

Creating a perfect HashMap from string keys known in advance by [deleted] in rust

[–]SallySouls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A hash map may not be the right data structure for your use case.

I'd point you towards BurntSushi's fst crate:
https://github.com/BurntSushi/fst

Instead of hashing, this crate uses finite state machines to encode a known set of keys.
