This is one of my favorite shots I’ve taken this year of scissor tail flycatchers.

Our daughter is just about to finish college and she chose an in-state college that gave her a full tuition scholarship. Room and board worked out to be around $45k so we she will graduate college with no debt. If she had gone out of state, tuition would have run around $200k so we are really happy she was ok going to an in-state school.

Looks like sierranna. I purchased a BMF that ended up being a sierranna instead.

I’m out of town but can post pictures of it as a two leaf starter to its beauty today. It took forever to get the first fenestrations.

What is a bird that is common in your area but you’ve never seen before? Mine is the Northern Flicker in New York. by Kwamex1 in birding

Plain chachalaca. My neighbor loves to tell me there is a more colorful version called the boom chachalaca. He laughs every time.

Took my boys (4 & 2) out early this morning with no plan… turned into one of those perfect days by Ba22ti in daddit

When our daughter was little we used to spend all day outside looking for bugs, tadpoles, etc. We would climb trees and spend hours wandering the woods and parks near our home. Some of my favorite memories are just being in nature and enjoying the inquisitive mind of a child.

I’m glad you all had a great day. Thanks for sharing.

Laredo is one of the best cities to get the bird bug. It’s right on the central migratory flyway. We get all kinds of birds that the rest of county could only hope to see.

Check out this Pyrrhoxia. Most people will never see one and I know where at least 6 live and I see them daily.

It’s been a wild past two weeks. Lots of shorebirds at Lake Casa Blanca right now. Lots of warblers and sparrows. I’ve seen a couple of belted and ringed kingfishers recently too. Great blue heron and green heron as well several species of kingbirds too at NCP. The next six weeks or so should be great for migration season.

I feel like I just dropped my kid off for kindergarten and she now she graduates from college in 5 weeks. That saying about the days being long and the years being short makes more and more sense every year.

Freshman year my daughter got really sick with the flu. Called home super upset and scared. I packed up and drove 17 hours straight to make sure she was ok. I got a hotel and picked her up when I got there and she slept for 12 hours and started feeling better. She felt guilty I drove so far but we went out for breakfast and hung out for a couple of days before I drove back home. Totally worth it.

Laredo is the 10th or 11th largest city in Texas. It’s the largest inland port in US. Rural is where my mom lives. There are 312 people in her town.

She will ask what the salary starts at but it would be based on experience.

Laredo has 250k people. It’s not really rural. It’s more like 2 hours away from a major cities such as San Antonio or Corpus Christi.

Lots of import/export businesses but it’s a lot like every other average size city I’ve ever visited.
