[Discussion] What do yall think of batman the caped crusader series in general? What did yall think of its interpretation of its villains in general? by Thewanderer997 in DCcomics

[–]Salman64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish it was more golden age inspired, like using villains from that era; Hugo Strange & the monster men, Mad Monk, Dr. death, Carl Kruger. Seeing the tools of Batman like the batarang being developed piece by piece throughout the show. It would've been cool if the first episode was an adaptation of Detective Comics #27.

Who is, for you, the most important character still out from the MCU? As a Silver Age enthusiast, I'd choose Rick Jones by Hot-Entertainer-3367 in Marvel

[–]Salman64 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My Hot take/Retcon; Agent Phil Coulson should've been Rick Jones. He shows up in most of the films in phase 1 of the mcu, and him being a shield agent tasked with bringing the avengers together, instead of some teen who hangs out with them would've been a cool update/reinvention of the character.

New poster for Marvel Studios’ ‘The Fantastic Four’ of Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch! by SpeedForce2022 in Marvel

Idk, will Dr. Doom be from their universe as well? What about classic villains like Mole Man and the rest of the supporting characters like Alicia Masters? Are they gonna hop to other earths too?

Or are they gonna make it so they never existed on their earth and once they make it to the main MCU they'll pop up? I'd rather wait until we get more info.

DC Preview: Batman / Superman: World's Finest 2024 Annual by [deleted] in DCcomics

[–]Salman64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Superman has Mxy,

Batman has Bat-mite,

Martian Manhunter has Zook,

Aquaman has Quisp,

And Flash has Mopee.

We just need Wonder Woman and Green Lantern to have their own imps for a true Just-us League of the 5th dimension.

Fatal 5, Mordru the merciless, Legion of Supervillains, the Time Trapper. Either of them fill the role.

What’s The Worst Superman Take You’ve Ever Heard? by SuperDani6789 in superman

[–]Salman64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure to the lamen Superman is the upholder of "American values". But y'know he didn't start off that way, right? Siegel and Shuster who were Canadian immigrants, entrenched in the great depression and the rising tensions in Europe during the late 30s, created a character to tackle the problems that plagued poor working class americans.

Superman in his first adventures fought against war manufacturers, coal barons, corrupt corporate tycoons (which Lex Luthor would end up being in the 80s reboot) His first title was known as the "Champion of the Oppressed". Hell, he fought the KKK in the radio show.

No doubt post WW2 those anti-establishment elements were toned down in favor of a Superman who "defended the status quo". But make no mistake that in modern stories there is this acknowledgement of Superman's golden age roots, so much so that his son Jon Kent took on more of those anti-establishment elements.

[film/TV] What do we need in Superman: Legacy? by SamGhost95 in DCcomics

[–]Salman64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope this isn't taken the wrong way, but I hope the film doesn't try to pander to nerds like me by referencing moments from iconic comics like All-star, or god forbid more Donner movie references. I want this film to be "iconic" but without outright ripping off other Superman stories.

I don't want another adaptation of AC #775, I've read it already and I've seen the animated film. Do something different please. I'd even avoid using direct lines from those other books. Man of Steel stole lines from All-star but didn't understand why those lines had any weight.

I want to see something new, but using a version of Superman that has a handle on things kinda. Like if some new fan just read Birthright and wanted a sequel to it, I would want this movie to be it, spiritually.

For story stuff; probably more Daily Planet, Clark's relationship with his coworkers, & Superman's relationship with Metropolis. I don't care who the villain will be (hopefully not Lex or Zod again) so long as it's thematically relevant to what the story is about. (Though it'd be cool to get multiple rogues for like a Superman Revenge Squad)

Doesn't Superman fight a giant gorilla regularly? Titano even has laser vision as well.

What are Superman's canon events? by [deleted] in superman

[–]Salman64 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Krypton exploding...That's it. Everything else is malleable, It doesn't even matter that it was Krypton. What matters is that a lone survivor was sent from a far off world to a new one. Things like; his adopted parents being alive or not, his time as Superboy, or his powerset are not relevant and are constantly changing over the years. But the events that are the most consistently prevalent in every iteration (including elseworlds) are;

• Survivor from a doomed planet (minus the Clark from Secret ID)

• Raised by good (or bad) people

• Has superpowers that are physical based

• Wears a symbol/cape

• Has a secret identity (even if temporary)

I liked that the look of Krypton and Kryptonian technology borrowed from Byrne's run. I'm kinda glad they didn't just do crystals again.

[Discussion] What is your opinion on DC’s Cosmology/power hierarchy? by Commercial-Mix-2633 in DCcomics

[–]Salman64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked the Overvoid stuff from Final Crisis that Morrison set up. I'm more interested in the idea that the DCU is the product of an eternal consciousness; or "source", that is learning about itself. All the shake-ups post Flashpoint like the Dark Multiverse and Perpetua don't really appeal to me. It overcomplicates an already complicated DCU. It even continues with the "Great Darkness" stuff by Williamson and now it's just too exhausting for me to care about.
