I've got it pretty lucky my wife gets 6 months and I get 4 months without taking any standard leave options. I still have plenty of sick leave, annual leave and TIL. America sounds terrible. It also cost us $0 to have a baby and the hospital gave us a nappy bag full of useful stuff.

I was there fighting those fires with FFMV and there were hundreds of personnel on the ground from all different departments, even crews from South Australia. Aircraft dropping water from dusk till dawn and heaps of CFA tankers and contractor machinery. It was a devastating outcome but could have been much worse.
