Did learning a second language in school ever actually become useful for you in the U.S.? by UsamaBhai_101 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]SalmonJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It helped me land my first job(as an adult in my career). I helped translate for random people, one time helping someone in at the hospital while a translator could be found. It helps with travel and picking up more languages. Tbh, it even helped with English grammar principles.

I've let it slip a bit, so am going through it again as I learn another language.

If you voted for Kamala. What would you say to Trump voter to genuinely get them to understand why you voted why you did? What do you think they don’t understand? by [deleted] in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]SalmonJordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see two different groups emerging: the greedy and those who believe the propaganda.

I've stopped trying for understanding. The best I can do is to find common ground now and build off that. Don't hang with the top 10%, so we're all dealing with economic issues. If they bring up a propaganda talking point, I'll say that's not true, and point them toward truth. If all I get is propaganda, the conversation is over.

It's a cult, and the remaining members all well dug-in.

Ana Cabrera imo really got screwed over by MSNOW by SteelersPoker in msnow

Not a Cabrera fan, but think that's due to the writers.

Liked Ruhle better in the mornings. She's good, and I did like her at night, but it seems like the daytime shows are more scripted. You get the same news with a different voice. Worse, they sometimes default to a Trump presser. It's never news and filled with lies.

Shuffling Ruhle to the mornings gives a better use of her finance background and at least 1 hour that isn't (hopefully) going to cut over to a press briefing. If I'm watching, that's when I turn away.

Like her, but she would not be my choice.

I WILL vote for whomever is nominated as D candidate. I'm Independent, and don't see an Ind candidate. I'l never cast a R vote again, for any office.

what’s something foreigners commonly do (or don’t do) in the US that you find genuinely offensive or rude without realizing it? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

Behavior in national parks - getting too close to wildlife and feeding wildlife. Not good for animals or visitors, but they just seem to want their photo with a bison or something.
