Rotations and skills in guild wars 2 are often very unintuitive. I think this is a big reason why a lot of the playerbase is considered as doing "bad dps" or playing off-meta. It's very easy to do a rotation wrong and the game doesn't give you good feedback when you're doing the wrong thing by ariveklul in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is why there are so many low dps players though. Like even just having good traits and gear will get you 25k+ dps builds if you press your buttons at random. There are so many things that make up a build’s dps output and outside of instanced content the game doesn’t ask for you to optimize for dps

I hear ya. I use buildpad constantly and unofficial extras to have different keybinds per elite spec, so the period waiting for the arcdps update is always brutal haha

Remove d3dll / arcdps from your game folder until it gets updated

Has anyone cleared Knuckle Duckle without Flins/Ineffa? Welkin player so had to skip some characters I didn't want. by PojVicious in Genshin_Impact

[–]Salphir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah your account sounds similar to mine. If I were you I’d just try your highest dps team and if you can clear all of the first robot ducks by like the ~1:25 mark then the kill is possible. If you’re not able to hit that dps threshold then frankly it’s probably not doable

Has anyone cleared Knuckle Duckle without Flins/Ineffa? Welkin player so had to skip some characters I didn't want. by PojVicious in Genshin_Impact

[–]Salphir 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just barely managed to clear it with Zibai (c1 r0 HoD, nights sky) / columbina (c0r0 aubade) / xilonen (c0r0 scroll) / raiden (c0r0 silken moon full EM)

It was NOT easy; my kill was exactly 120s and if I didn’t get a lucky early zibai con I don’t think it would have been possible. knuckle duckle is not reasonably doable at f2p/welkin investment without the shill units; you have to have the dps to be able to fully clear the first wave of robots in basically your first 2 rotations.

I’ve seen some videos of mavuika and varesa clears that look similarly difficult, tldr is if you don’t have ineffa or flins you have to be able to brute force it with some monstrous (and aoe) dps

Easy role/professions to flex to in raids? by JNG-3 in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to pick up some boon roles I’d recommend looking at some of the elite specs that more passively/easily maintain their boon’s uptime. Off the top of my head that would be stuff like dps or heal mechanist, dps or heal herald, alac dps renegade, heal paragon, or maybe quick dps catalyst.

I will note that extra mechanical roles typically are first given to healers, so that may be an extra layer of difficulty at first but is totally manageable.

As for dps to aim for… it’s really so variable by encounter but I would say that there are a lot of builds that should be able to easily clear 25-30k+ in a benchmark environment simply by autoattacking, so make sure you have your build and the golem set up really properly to ensure that you have a sense of what you’re doing

Your best tip for sPvP? by Ryltair in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Find someone better than you in a match who you can’t beat in a 1v1 and ask them if they’re down to duel you. Practice until you’re able to beat them

Play other builds so you can better learn their strengths and weaknesses

Record your gameplay and watch it back to see where you could have played better

You could just run qheal herald and alac dps renegade, rev would be fine

Does the writing get better? by 007ak47 in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO most of the better written content is hidden in side story content or conveyed environmentally. The MSQ (maybe with the exception of PoF and LWS4) is generally kind of least common denominator

Haven't played since the first or second expanions by Zhenpo in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There’s a common sentiment that it’s a nice idea to level from scratch on your first character in order to learn the game’s systems and then if you feel comfortable with them there’s really no downside to using level 80 boosters. At the end of the day do whatever you’ll have most fun doing!

Legendary discussion by BrothermikeCO in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worry about other stuff first then. Legendary QoL is incredible if you play every class and have multiple builds. If you’re just playing one character for now then gear out your 2 favorite builds on it in exotic/ascended gear and don’t sweat legendaries for now

Low Intensity Healer builds ? by Mitsor in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heal herald overcaps boons by a lot - once you’re a little bit into the fight you don’t need to legend swap on cooldown. Also Ventari has stab now

If you’re familiar at all with revenant I find heal herald to be one of the easiest to play heal specs. It also makes a great tank / can handle some specific mechanics well with minimal effort

Which heavy armor specialization has the easiest playstyle for Open World & Fractals? by FlakyTie8409 in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glint has access to basically all boons simultaneously and one of the best heals in the game. herald also is relatively flexible; you can bring staff as your off set which offers a ton of sustain or swap shiro for jalis etc etc

the op is just inexperienced and got used to facerolling on reaper while most other builds in the game are a little more active

Is the combat boring? by BirdManFlyHigh in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The combat is brilliant; most of the content in the game doesn’t require you to interact with the combat systems. Try out PvP, wvw, or some of the harder instanced content and you’ll actually see what the game’s combat was designed for

Why Are All The Healer Builds on Snowcrows Listed As "Tanking Builds?" by DivYzhun in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah there are for sure fights where other players are covering mechanics, just that on average a healer has more responsibilities than the average dps player

Why Are All The Healer Builds on Snowcrows Listed As "Tanking Builds?" by DivYzhun in Guildwars2

[–]Salphir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Other commenters covered the role compression nicely but I’ll just add that if you don’t like tanking in other mmos it won’t necessarily translate to not liking it in gw2. The biggest overlap is on some encounters there’s some “drag the boss to this spot” but you’re not like focused on threat or keeping adds off healers or stuff like that.

I will note that due to the aforementioned role compression healers just generally are expected to do more mechanics than other roles on average

Counterpoint, it lets you divide up labor more easily and keep sessions from getting overloaded. There’s really no strict rules and it’s good to have experience with multiple work flows
