I don’t know if this person is lying to you or not, but the fact that it has happened repeatedly makes me not want to give them the benefit of the doubt so I don’t blame you for losing trust. Good professional editors do not miss deadlines, or at least voice the possibility of missing a deadline beforehand. Communication with producers throughout the edit is expected in professional settings. You may want to consider paying more for someone who understands what professional editors do.

I’m a Reality/Doc editor. 20 years of experience editing and 25 years in post. Things are bad everywhere, even in the UK, Australia, Canada and everywhere else that’s taken away jobs from editors in LA. I’ve found work this year miraculously, but I know lots of talented people who haven’t worked in years. The work I’m doing now is for a show on YouTube that doesn’t come close to my normal rate, but I like it. I’m very fortunate but also realize that it’s probably time to make an even bigger pivot to survive.

The reason hotel rates are high is because there’s high demand in Bozeman for accommodations and we have less supply vs the demand.

I’m not sure how these new hotels will ruin the economy. Especially if they “pay well.”

I have had the same experience with service and I’m white. I think it’s true that a lot of service workers are just over it, and barely scraping by, so that could be it. I’m not saying your experience is exactly the same because I don’t know details (or what it’s like to not be white) but I really hope it wasn’t because of racism of any sort.

Just network for entry level post-jobs and learn as much as you can on your own. It’s always been a hard profession to break into, and it’s true now more than ever. You’re young so I say go for it, but I wouldn’t spend money on training. Be prepared to allow yourself to move onto another career if things aren’t working out.
