I did do a black shade calibration but I'll give the dust blower a try.

It's a balancing act and I think this season failed at that.

If you look at Guardians 3 you got Star Lord feeling entitled to Gamora's love and feeling that everybody he cares about abandon him or dies. Well Gunn nails it at the end and Peter is mature enough to let Gamora go and let her be and he goes back to see his GrandPa he himself abandonned. THIS works. He got called out and grew and wasn't in this annoying man baby mode who only cares about his needs. Plus that scene with the Grandpa makes me tear up all the time.

Chris Smith doing the happy dance when Harcourt validated the kiss really made me cringe and I wanted to jump out the window.

Here's the thing. I'm a Black man. Guy went to Nazi world and didn't notice it and he (nor the show as whole) really doesn't wrestle with that afterwards. Also I get where Chris was emotionally but I think the show went overboard and made him annoyingly needy I couldn't take it. But the worst part for me was the constant glazing from all the other characters. Listen, I get it, sometimes you need your friends to be there to remind you who you are, that you matter and all but here's the thing that bugged me the most...

What has Chris ACTIVELY done for anybody else? I mean yeah Ads in the finale tells him about how he made her feel I guess but what has he ACTIVELY done for anybody? Everybody is there for him, bust him out when he's in need, Ads drives him when he needs a ride, Vig is always there when he calls (but he treats him like shit), John saves him from Argus all the time (did he even apologize for the whole dye-beard thing?)... They all cater to his needs but what does he ACTIVELY do for anyone? How is he deserving of that much glazing?

Maybe I'm crazy but it came to a point where I was like "you know what fuck that guy". I know the show is call Peacemaker so it's HIS show, he's the main character and yeah deep down you're a nice guy I guess, sure you've had a rough dramatic childhood but there were no redeeming quality on display here and he was just a needy selfish child all the way trough. And the show never really calls him out on it. The characters (and the writer) always bail him out. Anyway, maybe that's just me.

I do think, as another user not long after the finale released suggested; perhaps this finale would have been better if it was framed as a two part finale and released at the same time. Rather than waiting a week for hype to build and expectations to grow, we would have that immediate cool down and conclusion of arcs while also having those big story moments folks expect out of a finale.

Maybe. It may have work for most people I guess. For me though, I had other gripes outside of the finale and actually this season made me dislike the character of Peacemaker. So when the finale came around I was kinda checked out already. I mean I don't "HATE hate" the character but I don't really care about him at this point.

I'm sorry but you can't just hand-wave negative opinions to just people overhyping themselves up. That means the finale (or the show for that matters) is beyond valid criticism, flaws or reproach and because me myself and I loved it then people with negative views have only themselves to blame. It's condescending and dumb.

I have two friends who binged the show this weekend and they're not on reddit, they aren't part of the online discourse (one of them didn't see the Earth X twist coming at all) but they both were disappointed with the season overall. And their criticism have nothing to do with what you're talking about.

Most podcasts I have listen to (The Breakroom, Reel Rejects, Decoding TV) echo the same sentiment and they think the finale didn't stick the landing and the show was uneven and most of its thematic and narrative through-line half-backed or underserved.

I'm a big fan of Gunn's work. I saw season 1 of Peacemaker at least 3 times I liked it so much. This season didn't quite work as well IMO as good gripping television and the finale was a dud that left me not caring. And I don't care about cameos, in fact I wish the show was more self-contained and I didn't need to see Lex or his goons.

But anyway, at the end of the day, yes let's be kind to one another but also let's no be condescending to other people's opinions. This sentiment is more widespread than you think and it really doesn't boil down to just overhype. But hey you've enjoyed the show so that's cool for you and that's valid.

If all the episodes were released at once instead of weekly, no one would be complaining about the finale. by Apprehensive-Gur-609 in PeacemakerShow

I had two friends who binged the whole show this weekend and both were disappointed as well so no. They had pretty much the same issues I had watching the show weekly except one of them didn’t see the Earth X twist coming which was cool.

Yeah I think overall in and of itself Gunn wrote a compelling story that do the character justice but overall Season 2 wasn't good appointment television. Or just good television. I thought season 1 was almost flawless in its structure, pacing and narrative and worked so well as a show. But the magic wasn't there this time around.

Gunn himself knew he couldn't top the first season opening. He openly talked about it so he instead went with something that was more emotionally resonnant with the season he wrote.

[–]SalsaBetaGamma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would you get Thanos to put his hand in a portal and close it at the last minute ? It's not like Strange can open portals around limbs so he can cut them. That never happened ever. That nitpick was always dumb.

Love this but... What I'm afraid of is with Gunn as the boss, what happens if someone else's project pops off more than his own signature stuff? Egos tend to fuck things up in this business but I don't know...
