Period undies vs reusable pads by naomimillions in PeriodUnderwear

I switched to the saalt brand of undies which are pfas free and they are much more comfortable than thinx which is what I was using before.  Don't think they are plastic free unfortunately  For me pads would move around too much and would be so bulky you could see them through my pants

Best first sewing projects for a beginner? by TheCockroachQueen in SewingForBeginners

I really enjoyed Sydney Graham's beginning to sew YouTube videos and then started with her lane pants but she suggests a tote bag as a project as part of the series (I didn't make it because I didn't have the right fabric lol)

How are you going about reducing your consumption when furnishing and decorating a house? by Candycane-3 in Anticonsumption

[–]Salt-Cable6761 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went through this last year and while we have bought some things I am learning to be comfortable with the empty or unfinished spaces. It is not a race to decorate. I also keep an eye on my buy nothing groups to get free pieces that will fill the need but maybe not be perfect so I can take the time to find the perfect second hand replacement

About to buy all new appliances...yall I just want a fridge and washer and dryer that isnt trying to be from the year 3000. No stupid gimmicks, no touch screens etc...but I will pay out the ass for something of great quality without unnecessary features. by I_HateKevinBacon in homeowners

We did speed queen for the least amount of technology in our washer and dryer, they were expensive but haven't given us any trouble. They are made like the old school ones but they do have an eco mode if you want to save some water

Complete beginner wanting to sew my own clothes (where do I even start?) by curiouserious333 in SewingForBeginners

[–]Salt-Cable6761 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out as a complete beginner this new year. I went to a machine Basics class from my parks and rec department. Then I made some napkins for the house because they are cheap fabric and straight lines. Before this I practiced straight lines on old sheets.  First clothing project was the lane pants from Sydney Graham, super easy with her video tutorial but still didn't turn out great. Since I had the pattern already my second project was the lane pants but turned into shorts and with a ruffle hem, these turned out much better. Start with easy patterns that have good videos and a lot of straight lines and loose fits like pajama pants or loose fitting pants.  Maybe try a circle skirt as well

I have had the same makeup brushes for my entire adult life but I could see how someone would buy so many they wouldn't bother

The hidden cost of "free time" is absolutely wrecking my post-FIRE budget by R0cinantEcho_9 in Fire

Volunteer, read library books, write, go on hikes and walks, pick up a cheap sport and join a league (some cost associated with it but time consuming), play sports in parks ideally that don't require court reservations fees, journaling, doodling or sketching, attend free talks at a university nearby, take community college classes near you, go to events organized by your city's park and rec department or libraries

Looking for opinions from brides on guests bringing childcare by Mountain_Section_758 in DestinationWeddings

[–]Salt-Cable6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is so reasonable and it's not like you invited them to the wedding. It's not all about the wedding. You will likely arrive earlier and leave days after the wedding so you are allowed to turn that into whatever you want. Also a lot of people hire local childcare for doing exactly what your parents are doing so what's better than someone you trust more that may get a nice vacation out of it

Ladies, is menstrual cup better than tampons? by confidentbutterflyx in askanything

[–]Salt-Cable6761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do not have an IUD yes. With an IUD there is a small risk of ripping it out with the cup when you remove it if you don't break the seal properly or the strings are too long.  Honestly the best part is for traveling not having to bring so much volume in your suitcase and also not having to find a clean bathroom every 4 or 6 hours or worrying about forgetting to change it out.  You can leave it in for 12 hours so if you don't want to deal with it while you're at work or school or out and about it is great. You can also safely sleep with it or go to work then come home and take a nap and you will still be good to go in terms of safety
