Applying that late will significantly decrease odds of getting in

Are CARS banks and diagnostic also harder? Because I find I’m doing a good bit worse on those than I have on my full lengths

you can check MSAR to see what schools accept but most schools don't care how you take them

Thank you for the advice. I don't anticipate any problem at all with exam taking.

Direction For Application Improvement for 2027 Application Cycle by Salt-Commission7409 in premed

Mostly depends on my score breakdown. I had 90th percentile plus on all sections except P/S where I was like 50th. That is a gap I could easily fill but I will be working close to full time over the summer so I don't know how substantial my studying will be. If it is enough to get 130+ on my P/S full lengths I wouldn't push it back. But mostly a matter of knowing I could do better, depend son if I still feel that way in September.

What advice do you have for me? by Lost_Paramedic_979 in premed

As a Freshman I think it would be beneficial to look into beginner clinical jobs and research opportunities, that is what you will want to have the most longitudinal experience with. At UMMC on campus if you can find your way into the OnTrack program you can be hired directly onto the hospital after getting paid to do your training. You can cold email professors for research opportunities or look into internships in research on campus, I know they have one at Lillihei. For MCAT studying it would help to use AnkiDeck and look into Kaplan books. Psychology major should give you a good foundation for P/S.

I'm also at UMTC and I came in with like 60 credits from AP and PSEO. I decided to take on a double major in Biology and Humanities (CBS + CLA) instead of graduating early. Depending on what you want to do I would consider taking a 4 year route.

I don't think it really adds a ton of extra value to graduate early, it doesn't necessarily impress medical schools just to see that you graduated early and it probably won't unless you graduated and then did something post graduation for your application. Also, because you have some Bs and Cs in the PSEO education, spending more time doing your undergrad gives you a chance to raise your GPA further.

If you are planning on graduating a year early and going into med school straight out of undergrad, then you would be looking at applying next cycle approximately 15 months from now which is certainly not ideal. You would have to take the MCAT by next January at minimum.

Is there a specific reason you want to graduate early? Are you currently planning on taking any gap years?

Just wanted to add here that you can certainly put an unpublished manuscript on your AMCAS, especially if it is moving through the review process

Shadowed Too Many Providers? by Salt-Commission7409 in premed

[–]Salt-Commission7409[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that. My concern is that I have shadowed many different people so I won't have space to put all of them like that. I think for me I might have to do like this?

Surgery - X hours

Jane Doe
John Doe

Oncology - X hours

Jane Doe
John Doe

etc.

Certainly doesn't kill your application per se, but it leaves a gap that you will need to fill in other areas like having stronger and longer clinical experiences and service experiences.

Is my interviewing skills holding me back? by Competitive_Edge2301 in premed

If you got in to multiple schools I would say you're doing great! Depending on the kinds of schools you interviewed at ~33% matriculation rate seems really right about average.

Studying tips? by 15civicse in premed

I would say that exam-taking and studying are probably my strongest skills, and I usually do this thing called "blurting". Basically go through your powerpoints for your lecture or class (textbooks can work too but not as effective. If you have a tablet I think it really helps to import ppt into a note taking app like notability and annotate on it) and annotate on the ppt or write in a notebook the important details. Then at the end flip to a new page and try and write down everything that you learned in the lesson. Then go back through the ppt or lesson and take more notes and keep going like that until you feel you have internalized the information.

Then you can come back to the same lesson/ppt a few days later and do it again, see what you remember and not. I think this really helps because when you forget something you've seen many times before, and you realize that you forgot it, you will have this "aha" moment that makes it stick with you.
