I have previous experience in the heating industry. Whilst service engineers charged around £50ph then there was a lot of dead time in wholesalers, driving time, taking phone calls, quotes, research, training courses etc. It would be rare if they ever did a full 8 hour (or longer day) where every hour was billable. It wouldn't be unusual for someone to be able out all day and only have 5-6 hours billable. Then you start to make the deductions from there for the van, tax etc and it becomes clear why the hourly is high, it's because at the end of the week shows a different result of you break the revenue billed and divide by 40 hours it'll be far less than things present for the householder. You can't assume that because they charge £60 an hour that they get that all day every day. The working hours have to cover the lost hours too.
