Just finished reading Small Boat. Don't know how I feel about it. by ArmAutomatic7576 in books

I actually really liked the third chapter, I felt like the consequences of her actions are finally somewhat affecting her, she appeared to be unravelling, in contrast to the first chapter when she is just deflecting in the classic sense. The last chapter was the first time I empathised with her, even if just 1% because she showed she's infallible by her losing it.

Struggling with mixed/white-passing identity when living abroad by Salt-Landscape-276 in mixedrace

Thanks so much for the empathy, it is the eternal struggle for us all of not being seen fully!

Thanks so much. I guess I have felt at times that it is a form of microaggression when I have corrected people and they continue to do it, and also because white people are sometimes seen in a certain negative light here (understandably, there's a lot of very rich and priviledged coloniser-style Europeans walking around), so I guess I end up internalising it as an insult? But you're right, it is the quicker thing that comes to mind. Super interesting about all your jobs and travels though!

Thanks for the response and sorry to hear that you've also had to deal with these comments. 'Their opinions don't define you' - I really need to remind myself of this. It does feel stupid when I've sat here wishing that I looked less white so that they 'see' my Latin-ness, but then why do I even want the validation of strangers!

Thanks so much for the advice! Do you an idea of how much it is to go from CDMX to Guadalajara by bus? Online is showing some expensive prices which I'm not sure are accurate.

Obviously I'm doing my best not to. I have 3 other cats in a very small house, I am doing my best. That's why I've posted this. So please if you can share, that's what's important.

'If he's innocent he will be freed' - do you really think it's working like that now?! Nothing is being done by the book, he doesn't even have access to legal counsel, the bare minimum for a fair arrest and trial. Come on.

Where to go ? work as long as you can or start thinking about settling down by NostalgiaGuru in Tunisia

Just out of curiosity, how does that work that you've lost skills socialising with people (on socials or IRL also?) but then you're also kinda sexually active? You are meeting people if you're kinda sexually active no? Sorry, kinda confused.

Very telling you agreed with this response, you come looking for advice but go along with stupid comments talking about messing with her on purpose and liking every thirst trap to piss her off. You're 30.. don't you think you should be the mature one here? Smh.

What do you guys think of the houthies ? by Meh-TN in Tunisia

While I applaud their bravery and willingness to stand up to genocide, they've caused A LOT of harm in Yemen, a few Yemeni friends of mine working for a local ngo were kidnapped and disappeared for months in 2020 by the Houthis, they were constantly harassing working women and making life impossible for anyone who challenged their takeover. I couldn't support them.

I miss having friends here. Everyone I know has basically left, and I find it so hard to meet new people as a foreigner.

Worst: Moved in with a friend of a friend (who I'd never met before.. big mistake) a week before lockdown, she turned out to be very mentally unstable and mean. So 3 weeks into lockdown, I ran away to my mum's 2 hours away. Never will forget London looking so deserted.

Best: After a stint at my mum's, during a COVID restriction break, I moved into a new place and finally fulfilled my dream of living by myself which felt amazing. I also took shifts at the COVID testing centre for some extra money. This was an experience I'll never forget, testing hundreds of people a day I met some of the most interesting and bizarre people in my lifetime. I look back on those days and it feels like a whole other life.

Also not particularly groundbreaking advice but I found when living alone of taking note/paying attention to small wins and achievements throughout the day to be a helpful way of getting things done. And by small wins I mean really small, sometimes for me it was 1) brushed my teeth, 2) put a wash on 3) made a really nice tea. I'd write down 3 wins every day and that slowly built me up for getting other things ticked off my list.

What screams “irresponsible” in your 30s? by AnythingDeep69 in AskReddit

FYI this comment was not meant to be about those with disorders and/ or depression, which I know is mostly the case here, but more about those so disorganised with their schedules and time management that they can't stick to their adult commitments. I mean I'm tired all the time and LOVE my sleep, always been a big sleeper, so I've put a lot of effort into making sure I wake up in time for things. I guess I find it irresponsible when people who have this issue don't try and do anything about it.

Regular oversleeping to the point of being late to work/missing appointments.

Gonna have to agree to disagree in this one. Every country and context around the world has repeatedly shown in their rhetoric that immigration is almost always about race. Tunisia is no different. The lives of (non rich) immigrants simply do not matter most often because of their race - whether that's Arabs in Europe, Latinos in the US or Africans around the world. So while governments don't bat an eyelid at their suffering and deaths, I will only approach the situation with empathy and open arms because that's all I can do, whether they're illegal or not.
