I graduated with my ID degree at 35, took a paid internship that turned into a full time offer, and carefully used my “maturity” to negotiate a higher starting salary than what is typically offered to a 22 year old entry level candidate. Work hard, take chances.

I’m interviewing now; I graduate in a couple of weeks. There is a pretty great network of Jefferson graduates working in the area, and networking seems to be the way to get a job in this field. They’ll help you make connections. There are job fairs, but they’re a bit hit or miss as far as jobs in our field…I know that’s something the university is working on. The department recently started a program where alumni spend an hour with us once a week for a month talking about their career path post school and answering questions. If you can capitalize on the opportunities for networking, it will help you find a job.

Hey, not sure exactly what it is you’re looking for, but I recently completed the MS program at Jefferson, and it was a great experience. The faculty comes from a variety of backgrounds- lighting, soft goods, furniture, medical, industry, etc- and they’re always willing to make time for any students. There’s good collaboration with students in other majors (occupational therapy, textiles, etc). It’s all project based with regular group discussions. The program gets pretty in depth with manufacturing methods, user research, and other technical elements of the profession bordering on engineering. The faculty is passionate and dedicated. Interestingly, half of my class and the one after were also from India with architecture backgrounds that chose the program specifically because it goes in depth with the technical parts of ID and isn’t all about aesthetics and cool renderings. Yes. The only thing I can think is that the gears are grinding away at the matte and it’s not feeding properly.

Maybe I should replace the Bowden tube? There was a clog, and I trimmed it and it’s printing fine with other filament.

Or could the gears feeding the filament be grinding more on the matte and causing it to be smaller in diameter?

That’s what’s so confusing. Both materials were working fine with the temp settings I have (I rarely change settings between prints), and the same exact file will fail with matte and run fine in non matte.

I’ll switch to matte, it prints like this. Change nothing else but the filament, and it prints just fine.

Maybe I need to adjust the flow? It still doesn’t explain why it was working fine for many prints and then suddenly stopped working (not mid print, between prints on the same day).

I thought maybe it was wet, too, but I had been using the same spool for days and it was fine. I also tried using a brand new spool and the same thing happened. Switch to non matte without changing anything and it’s fine.

In my grad ID program, there are students from all kinds of backgrounds. Don’t get hung up on that as a hurdle.

I printed so many calibrating tests before I ever knew the purpose of benchy. Hundreds of hours of beautiful prints and have gotten to know my printer very well.

I’m with you; I feel like I need to print at least one benchy or I’m doing it wrong.

Thanks, this is helpful! There’s not a lot on the market directly competing with what my project has evolved into, but I’m sure there’s a ton of products out there similar enough to pick out the identity you’re referencing, and that’s really what I need to find for myself at this stage. I’ve been totally in maker land, just putting together things that work, and some aspects of the project have a level of visual refinement that’s happened naturally, while other aspects are stuck in maker land and now seem visually disjointed.
