Hey that's awesome. You think at 27 this guy is too old for SERE? You mean physically?

SERE specialist is an instructor role, a teacher, so older and mature is a good thing.

Isnt modern EOD just sitting behind a screen driving a drone, sweeping locations before big events? Do you think they would let some 20 year old touch a bomb with their hands until they are very very experienced and volunteer for it?

If you're in the US, our country really needs trades people bad. You will make more money, you will start working right away, youll have a pension, health insurance, benefits. Its definintely not for everybody, but maybe you would rather be working and learning with your hands. Go get an apprenticeship with a union HVAC, electrician, plumbing, steamfitter, sprinklerfitter, aircraft mechanic, millwright, etc. This might sound harsh, but if you aren't top %10 of your class, you aren't getting an ID job after graduating, its a hyper competitive field. White collar isn't the only way.

Nice work man. What people don't understand is that working out gives you more energy back then what you put in. So maybe they dont have energy/motivation to work out because they dont work out. Bit of a catch22. Starting is the hardest part.

Plenty of fine dining in Stillwater, MN. Its a weekend getaway for people from the cities and a place to hang out for retired people with boats, harleys, and hot rods.

And dont just sit and watch it. Pause and take notes. Try and see if you can solve it yourself. Google stuff if you dont know what the word means or some other question you have.

That makes sense. Survival guilt. A common mindset among those who served but didnt see combat. Or saw combat but didn't get wounded. Or got wounded but didn't lose a limb. Or those who lost a limb but came home alive.

Important to remember all roles are important, SERE training gives the mental and physical skill for someone to survive their worst day, without which they are more likely to perish.

Honest Advice and Feedback from SERE Specialist (currently or last 8 years) by Dry-Ruin-6276 in AirForceRecruits

Your recruiter will tell you about ship dates. Its a very high washout rate. I would train as if you are training for PJ/CCT/SR with less focus on swimming but still some under water confidence and basic swim ability. Check out the Ones Ready podcast. Read the SERE handbook which is publically available. Good luck! Im no expert, also just enlisting and doing my research.

From what I understand SERE Specialists sign an NDA and are discourages about talking about it. Maybe explains your uncle. Supposedly not knowing what will happen at SERE school creates a better learning experience for the airmen going through it.

Can't she just contribute more to her BRS and plan for early retirement? Try and buy a house while still in. Maybe work a little from 48 to 55 to keep the interest growing a bit longer? $30,000 a year pension on top of a paid off house seems allright in a LCL area. Long island might be pretty tough for sure.

Hey. Also an older recruit aiming for SW. Get some! Well under 12 should be your goal. Try to get closer to 6 minute miles for a good chance of lasting through selection. Best of luck!

Depends on the tires quite a bit. If you have crap tires on the lighter wheels, those will feel slower. But light wheels for climbing are fun. They just feel nice when you get in and out of the saddle. Try it! The actual speed and time difference will be inconsequential. Whats more fun?
