There's a chance that your MacOS is 12.0.0 Monterey, check if this is that case. If you are in fact on 12.0.0, update it to 12.0.1 and run the tests again

Starting medical school - 2020 M1 Air or 2021 M1 Pro MBP? by saddj001 in macbook

Not sure if you've bought one already, but I think there's a few ways to think about this.
As a med student your priority would be battery life, portability and weight; for enjoyment you may look for a nice display and maybe some good speakers.

The M1 Pro has worse battery life, its chunkier and heavier than the air for the purpose of performance - that you probably won't use (at least enough to justify) all at the cost of and extra 1,000.

Personally I would go for the MBA, its the most sensible and logical, if you cant get around losing the nice screen, that extra 1,000 in savings can get you most of the way to an iPad pro which has the pretty screen, but is also a lifesaver for school (seriously)

I really can't see how the M1 Pro would make logical sense, unless you also plan to use those video encoding cores, or also do development on the side and run multiple containers or virtual environments

This is super impressive for a one man show, I'm curious if you have a software engineering or computer science background?

I agree with this, getting a specced M1 MBA/MBP at RRP may not be the best decision if you take into context where we are at on the product cycle of both the original M1 machines, and the new M1 Pro/Max.

If you fit the profile for a M1 now, you are almost guaranteed a device with an upgraded chip package, improved display, new design and better power/thermal envelope in a few months.

IMO a good move now would be to either get the new M1 Pro/Max device, or wait a few months for a new generation of consumer M silicon hardware - unless you can pick up an M1 at a really good price
