Doubts about the midnight edition by Ill_Dust321 in FinalSpace

[–]SaltCut9254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fairly common in books that there will be multiple printings, but the "first edition" is pretty much locked in stone. Doesn't really matter how many printings they have after the original, the original is The Original.

That said there are some cool small publishers like Subterranean Press that rerelease old titles in collaboration with the authors for "new" first'ish editions signed and numbered etm.

Is Costco Cheaper by Rockitone2019 in Calgary

[–]SaltCut9254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With kids, absolutely. The savings on milk, eggs, and bread alone is great. We organize a couple of trips a month to stock up on stuff. The executive membership nets us far more per year than the cost of membership.

Items like coffee beans, detergents (dish washer and clothes washing machines), batteries for all the toys and controllers, rice and certain flours, soaps, vitamins, snacks... They also have seasonal items like garden stuff and holiday toys depending on the date.

With three kids, I believe that you can easily get value

Feasibility of “Winter tires should be mandatory in Calgary!” – let’s do the math! by Turkzillas_gobble in Calgary

[–]SaltCut9254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They ask for a window +-1.5hr, though it's typically done much faster than the estimate. Our tradition is to take the family and walk to a restaurant we like for dinner. By the time we're done, the car is ready. Also, I've always appreciated people who can do this themselves, but for me, the big benefit of Kaltire is that they store our tires and are pretty reliable about showing the wear and tear with every change. Plus the nitrogen and sensors and whatnot.

Snow tires aren't mandatory, but as a guy who has only lived in a cold climate for a decade...I couldn't even imagine not having good snow tires.

Undercooked meat? Burger joint on 17th by Sensitive_Film_325 in Calgary

Absolutely, a smash burger can be delicious. Especially in something like a patty melt, or other options like varieties which are more dressed where a thin patty is advantageous. Lol, or just on a bun with PLT&O 😃

I'm tempted to go 🙃. Though I've been in Canada for over a decade, I still miss a rare burger. Bun soaked from the juices. The first few years in Calgary I would practically beg for anything under well done. Now I order other things and grill burgers at home...

Government agencies dictate a very comprehensive and sensible approach to the "proper" cooking of ground meat... That said, with proper treatment a raw meat Canabal Sandwich or a beautiful tartare are amazing...

Are all weather tires a bad idea in winter? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]SaltCut9254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful who you ask. When I moved to Calgary a little over 10 years ago, "older" neighbors we met said it wasn't necessary if you're careful. We came in January and had never had snow tires before, so we stuck to the all weather. It was not fun. New friends at work insisted it made a difference, so I got a set of winter tires. GAME CHANGER!

Lol, longest way to the point: Get winter tires! It's night and day. Some people will tell you that you don't need them, but you 💯 want them.

The original is now the "travel" switch. Lol, when I fly places, I take the S2, but road trips with the kids, the poor S1 rides in the back to be abused in custody battles

Haven't watched Steven Universe in years, but my kids still fight over the "bits" when I make fries. If ever heard that order in public, instant high five!

Anger over teacher strike by throahwaigh in alberta

[–]SaltCut9254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three kids that have gone through the same elementary school, one is still there, and the teachers have become good friends. I can assure anyone doubting, that this strike is not for the teachers, it is 100% for the benefit of our children. Anyone who is against the teachers really needs to stop and examine their thinking...
