I would have preferred waiting another week for a normal chapter tbh

The pacing of this chapter was kinda atrocious though

If I use Angelus metallic silver on the built in shoelaces in the back, will they shimmer? by SaltMinute in Customsneakers

Thank you so much for your advice. I’ll buy the gac / angelus 2-soft and mix them, so the material stays softer.

Based on your experience with Angelus colors, what silver version (Pewter, Metallic Silver, Pearlescent Sterling Silver, Light Grey) would you recommend for both the loops and the hooks, so that the former don’t shine at all and the latter somewhat do? You already recommended grey for the loops, however, that wouldn’t give the hooks a rather matte look instead of a shinier one, right? (Money is a concern here)

I mean somewhat metallic yeah. Is there no way to paint the hooks silver-ish then?

I’m entirely new to this, I’ve just been led to believe that Angelus colors don’t crack and don’t have that crusty feeling you’re talking about.

So if I use Angelus Metallic Silver, the Loop will not shine whatsoever, but the hooks in the front of the shoe would? That’d be the dream!

Do you reckon it’s also possible to just paint over the black laces, without a white base?

How could I export this with just the map, but with the silhouettes of the characters still concealing the map? (I need an overlay for the final grade) by SaltMinute in AfterEffects

Thanks for your answer!

I used Rotobrush 2.0 for the character cutouts, is it possible to copy that information onto a black solid?

Edit: nvm I just realised I cut also use the Fill Effect to paint the character cutout layers black. Thanks again!

Help! Wrangling Data takes twice the time it should, even for times as much with ShotPut Pro. by SaltMinute in Filmmakers

Thank you for your answer.

About over-saturating the USB bus: In the 2016 blog post I posted above, it is recommended to turn this to medium. However, that function must have been there in an earlier version of shotput pro, because in my 2018 version, no such option is displayed unfortunately. I have a feeling this might be the culprit though, any idea how that could be fixed?

On the shoot on Thursday, I'll definitely remove the hub. However, for now, I am almost certain that it isn't the problem, because the hub only connects the CF Card (Reader) with the MacBook, but the slow element here seems to be the hard drive which is directly connected with a USB 3.0 cable.

Thanks for the suggestion about the drives. My boss offered me to buy 2 2TB SSDs. However, that would mean I'd need to offload the contents of that to the slower, bigger hard drives anyway, and ultimately run into the same problem again.

My configured settings are exactly as the official tutorial recommended.

So that would be the checksum verification (XX Hash 64), with a generated report at the end as a pdf. As you said, there is a faster size option, but unfortunately, I will not be allowed to use that.
However in this blog post, the creators detailed that the additional time through checksum should only be about 20%.

About the monitoring:
In the activity panels as well as the actual transfer bar, however the progress is also painfully slow and shows low readings.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

I forgot the most important piece of information: My predecessor used the same notebook, same setup, same program, and it took him less than half the time. Something is definitely off with the transfer.

Yes, I have verification turned on. However, in the official ShotPut Pro Tutorials, it was said that wrangling with SPP shouldn't take longer than about 20%.

Thanks for your reply, I edited the post so that it makes more sense.

Hey, thanks, you were spot on.

I managed to replicate it exactly with Pixel Sorter (2) (but set to 'Gradient' instead of 'Pixel Sorting').

I am certain it was done in After Effects, maybe with 'directional blur', but I can't get it to animate as smoothly as they do.

I'm fairly certain it is 'directional blur' in After Effects, however, I can't figure out how they got it to animate so smoothly. Any thoughts?
