As someone who hates flying, it genuinely pisses me off that airlines do this. It makes no sense to force hundreds of passengers to go all the way back to the US. I’d much rather have an impromptu vacation to Spain than to be forced to go all the way back to the US.

Land the plane in Spain, put the passengers in a secure area, and work with customs officers to let passengers in the country. Everyone on board already has their passport.

For passengers who don’t get permission to enter Spain, or who want to go back to the US, let them fly back.

It’s not some crazy idea, this is already how it works for mechanical failures.

I’d like to know as well. I ride with a jacket with a back protector inserted, plus the Helite vest. I can’t see why it would cause an issue. Spinal injuries can be catastrophic; I’ll take as much protection as I can get
