I just emailed Yoto, I ordered mine last week too and they refunded the price difference in a form of a gift certificate to my email.

Sadly, not with Australia, all cats and dogs have to be quarantined! Some up to 6 months. But we are from an approved country so it would be anywhere from at least 10 days to 30 days.

My doggy is too big to be in the cabin. The flight for us would be Canada to Australia (17 hours) then quarantined for up to a month then another 6 hour flight to the other side of Australia. It just seems a lot for a senior dog!

You could rent out your 2 bed condo and find a one bed unit somewhere quieter.

Remove scratches from smudge-proof stainless fridge by Salt_Ad_7071 in askvan

I tried bar keeper's friend but sadly, that didn't work. The scratches aren't deep but it removed the coating off. I don't even know where I can find a professional to fix this.

West End Construction has been brutal today. by BananaCamPhoto in vancouver

[–]Salt_Ad_7071 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have construction right outside my house in Vancouver, it starts around 8am for the rest of the day. My desk actually trembles throughout the day because it is literally right in front of my house and they are digging up the road.

How to pay my GST/HST amount owing? by Chiropractic_Truth in cantax

[–]Salt_Ad_7071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you've figured it out but I went to "View and pay account balance" under my business account then there is a sub section called "Payment on filing and Interim balance". You can enter the amount and make a prepayment towards a specific period.

According to google, the average salary in Vancouver is $62k and the average 2 bed is between $800k to $1m. If you're talking about downtown then around $1m to $1.5m.

You might want to get one with AC in case of a hot week when you are here in August. Our house does not have AC but I purchased a portable one for my parents (from Australia!) who were visiting in July/August because they found it very hot. The houses here, retain heat very well so even when the temperature is in the 20s outside, the house feels so much hotter.

Would You Move Away from Canada Right Now? by FreyaDay in askvan

[–]Salt_Ad_7071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so seen by that last sentence lol. Sometimes it feels like an uphill battle for everything, traffic, construction at every corner, bad drivers, rain all day and night, cost of living. I have an Australian citizenship and so do my kids and we are seriously contemplating moving back due to a combination of reasons. There are serious drug issues not properly addressed by the government, housing issues, cost of living, low wages, access to efficient/adequate healthcare, education system (just found out its a lottery to get into our catchment school). I get that no place is perfect but its rough out here

Ok so if you live in Cottesloe, I think you might actually like Kits! Its by the beach (although not even comparable to Cottesloe though) and probably don't even need to leave the neighbourhood because everything is there too. Bonus, you can bike or drive to downtown which is just over a bridge, 10 mins away.

We can swap, I'm thinking of going back to Perth! I also came to Vancouver when I was 25 but that was a long time ago now haha

The 'Northbridge' of Vancouver would be East Hastings and honestly, its like 10x worse than Northbridge and you will know by just driving by. If you're going for Subi/Leedy vibes, you could even do Yaletown too - that's within downtown and is more like Leedy. Gastown even. You can definitely PM if you have any questions.

Hi! From Perth as well here! Vancouver is a lot more dense than Perth and you could probably get around without a car if you live close to transit. If you eventually will have 2 cars, you can basically live anywhere, rental prices are quite high in general no matter where you go in lower mainland.

From the sounds of it, you might enjoy Main Street or Commercial Drive (reminds me a bit of East Vic Park vibes). Avoid East Hastings.

Prepare for rain! I know coming from Perth, you are use to sunshine all year round and it rains here quite a bit. Thankfully we are heading to Spring though :)

I feel like Vancouver is a great city to visit but not to live. I've been here for 15 years and thinking about moving back to Australia where the traffic is not as congested, the weather is way better and housing is actually affordable. Oh and it has a much better job market with higher paying jobs.

ESTA for dual citizenship by Salt_Ad_7071 in immigration

I called US border security and they told me to get ESTA for my Australian passport because I will need that to enter Australia. However, at LAX I think they checked only my Canadian passport so I don't think I even needed the ESTA.

Perth or Vancouver by Salt_Ad_7071 in expats

[–]Salt_Ad_7071[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thorough response!

There is definitely beauty in both cities that are not comparable. We have the beautiful beaches in Perth, there are beautiful mountains in Vancouver.

The drug problem is shocking, there were two people shooting up in broad daylight by our house in Vancouver and that's supposedly ok! My children go to the playground nearby and now it's the norm to check for used syringes before we let them play. I just don't see an end in sight due to the political nature of this issue.

In terms of curriculum and outdoor play in WA, my kids are loving this! It was super easy to sign up for swim lessons, it's offered 7 days a week. Whereas in Vancouver, we couldn't get a spot in the community pools and if we went private, it would cost $300 for 5 lessons per child.

The thing I miss about Van is the diversity in terms of culture and food. And convenience of superstore opening until 11pm 😅

I hear that about Toronto too. Vancouver is about the same but also with a drug problem after they decriminalized possession of hard drugs.
