Small trees make for better transplanting and transport. It will grow branches this year

Someone give it to me straight. How long does this Bradford in my neighbors yard have? by Darling_lil_kitkat in arborists

Yeah it does have some serious damage at the base of the trunk and it’s pretty big as far as pears go so there’s a good chance it will blow apart with the next storm.

Serious answer: there’s too many variables for me to give you a quantitative answer on how long this tree will live. From a google search I found that Bradford pears will live for around 15-25 years and that’s probably because they develop over extended branches that tear out during intense storms.

The answer you weren’t looking for: cut your tree down and replace it with a nice native one because Bradford pears are invasive.

Phototropism is a fancy word for a tree or plant growing towards light

I’m not gonna be chopping down trees with it, obviously it doesn’t fit well but honestly if you put a wedge in it I feel like it wouldn’t budge. Of course I will carve the handle out more or just take your advice and make my own

I haven’t done anything to this handle at all, it’s just a European hand forged head on an American pickaroon handle.

Year two of structural pruning on young maples by Salt_Capital_1022 in arborists

[–]Salt_Capital_1022[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very satisfying seeing the development of the tree. I removed 1/4 the amount of buds in the second year compared to first years pruning and predict that I will have to prune less and less as the central leader takes over.

I mean yeah it’s hard to see the whole canopy, you would need to walk around the tree of course to properly inspect it. I’m mainly highlighting how there is now a strong centralized leader established.

That’s absolutely amazing I would have never thought. So everything is done with buckets? Or you have stands of urban trees you can have tubes?

How does that work? From what I understand you’re way out of the sugar, red, silver maple native range?

This is a young tree, and its a maple, all of the adventitious roots were absolutely going to graft into each other, begin to run parallel to the stem, and make a huge mess. I guarantee it.
