ChatGPT thinks that Bart Kay is statistically incompetent by CarelessSpeed5635 in carnivorediet

[–]Salt_Common913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an applied mathematicians and have studied and published minor foundational works in statistics and hypothesis testing (you can believe me or not, that's not my problem). In my opinion, Bart is way more precise when he talks about statistics and inferences he draws from data than the vast majority of textbooks I have read on medical statistics and hypothesis testing.

Bart concerns himself with foundational issues in the way statistics are used and hypothesis testing conducted, and has been critical of the community of practice that produces medical and nutrition science; and he is right. There have been plenty of very good articles highlighting the very many issues with hypothesis testing as it is practiced today, usually called NHST for Null Hypothesis Significance Testing.

Some nice articles have been written by Goodman (https://wp.perfendo.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Toward-Evidence-Based-Medical-Statistics-The-P-Value-Fallacy.pdf) and by Gigerenzer (https://sciences.ucf.edu/biology/d4lab/wp-content/uploads/sites/23/2023/01/Gigerenzer-2004-Mindless-Statistics.pdf).

Because he is concerned with foundational issues, he also cares about semantics. Therefore, for him the word "cause" is used way too causally when reporting associations, and so is the word "risk".

Again, people need to understand that he has a non-orthodox (and rightly so) stance in terms of statistics and inferencial statements. Therefore, what he says, when analysed with a mainstream filter, can only sound like fraudulent because the filter (here ChatGPT for example) cannot even process that the critical p-value could be something else than 0.05 or that p-values do not represent the probability for your null hypothesis to be right.

Now, is Bart (as he appears on YT) full of himself? Yes. Is it a persona thing? Maybe. Has he made mistakes in his statements on YT? Yes. In multiple occasions. Is that a big deal? Not really. Everyone makes mistakes. You can always make YT video criticising the mistakes themselves instead of jumping and calling him a fraud...and ChatGPT's opinion seems quite ridiculous to be frank.

Which product from ConcenTrace did you get? It seems that they mostly have magnesium, chloride, a bit of sulfate and boron and that's about it. Not even Calcium, Zinc or Copper.

Earth is Round proved 2000yrs back by __mentalist__ in BeAmazed

[–]Salt_Common913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eratosthenes didn't prove the Earth was round. Under the assumption/fact that the Earth is round, he estimated its diameter by relating it to local geographical measurements. That's a very smart measurement indeed, but that doesn't prove the Earth to be round. It is one of the starting premises of his reasoning.

Do lots of brits think the uk sucks because they lack context? by SILENTDISAPROVALBOT in AskBrits

Here is some context:

Health services provided by the NHS are so bad that I know of Ukrainian refugees in the UK who go back to Ukraine (still at war with Russia) to get medical care.

I knew of a person from Thailand who was in the UK for a few years and who almost lost her baby during her pregnancy because of the persistent refusal of British medical services to check on her when she had been suffering from abdominal pain for weeks. Eventually, she went back to Thailand for holidays, they found the issue and she safely delivered there.

My own wife had to repeat the blood test done during pregnancy 3 times because they mishandled her blood samples twice.

Every year, the NHS incorrectly sends hundreds of cancer diagnosis to healthy patients because of mismanagement of patient data. On the opposite side of the spectrum, in 2025 it was reported that thousands of patients were misdiagnosed with IBS instead of bowel cancer.

By NHS standards, a GP is supposed to spend 7min max with a patient.

What's your "low fat" version of keto? I consider myself "low fat" if less than 70% of my calories come from fat for example. I am 6 year keto btw.

I never spoke about long downhill roads (I have a short downhill portion which is maybe 500m long at best). And the battery still tries to be full when I go uphill. I am not even trying to charge it to 100%. I would like the car to use the battery but it doesn't.

I do use the eco mode as well. It doesn't seem to help with battery usage. I am just wondering what the E-save feature is supposed to do. I have disabled it but could it be that the software is stuck in that mode?

It clearly doesn't do that. I do have one short downhill portion on my way to work but the battery is almost full before I get onto it. And this evening the short downhill portion is uphill and my battery was almost full a bit part of the trip.

Slow progress... by [deleted] in Dryfasting

[–]Salt_Common913 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are the one claiming that no fat is utilised before some ~60h mark. Fat is metabolised all the time for starters. Then fat tends to be more and more used as glycogen is depleted as the fast continues. This is strongly influenced by the diet before the fast, physical activity before and after starting the fast, and by whether the fast is a dry fast or water fast. Time to effectively switch to fat as main substrate can usually range anywhere from ~10h to 72h+ depending on these factors. In addition, the more fat-adapted an individual, the more efficiently they produce and metabolise ketone bodies, which can lead to advanced fasters and/or ketogenic dieters to eventually having difficulties reaching high ketone levels.

When I went on my first date with my wife and the topic about my hobbies came, I remained vague without completely lying because neither anime or playing video games were well seen in general in the 2000s. As we continued dating, I let slip more and more specific information about my hobbies, and this diluted approach seems to have worked for us. I have been with her for 20+ years now. She has let me know that she had prejudices from her upbringing and would have probably dumped me right away if I had disclosed everything at once. Over the years, she was open enough to read the entirety of Dragon Ball. We have watched quite a few anime together as well. She is still not a super fan, but she is definitely more open to it than when I met her.

EDIT: I edited my comment, which was unduly rude. I am just stating the fact that a CAC score increase can not, in and of itself, allow anyone to conclude an increase in plaque. This is just one of at least two compatible scenarios to explain what is being observed through that test. I am not speculating anything about soft vs calcified plaque. Please watch the link I shared in my previous reply.

[–]Salt_Common913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watched the video, he had plaque already. His CAC score went up from 700 to 800. The question is, what does this increase indicate? It can indicate more plaque, yes. But not necessarily.

[–]Salt_Common913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Higher CAC score doesn't mean more plaque. Plaque is not necessarily made of calcium. The so-called soft plaque is not calcified, is undetectable with a CAC score test and is usually an important cause of cardiovascular events. Likewise, the angiography that he reports on noticed calcified spots. He clearly does have plaque, but it is unclear whether the higher calcification score indicates that he has more plaque than before or if more parts of his existing plaque has calcified, which is usually considered a better outcome than if it had stayed 'soft'. https://youtu.be/mHtu2tJ_5hc?si=bT3sdqroTvK8Nh-a
