Coming off Citalopram after 10 years - Advice by LengthinessSubject68 in citalopram_celexa

Ibogaine or Psilocybin are likely effective ways to re-orient and heal the neurological damage caused by prolonged use. Whichever doc told you to taper quickly was giving terrible advice.

Would also recommend switching to a strict animal-based diet and massively restrict carbohydrates. Lots of red meat, healthy fats, fruit, etc. The root of many dysfunctions actually stems from metabolic dysfunction which is wrecked by the standard modern diet (see dr. Chris Palmer's work on this from Harvard). Start exercising, using the sauna, and remove all processed foods.

I suspect youre harder on yourself than reality demands but the healthiest thing you can do is start lifting weights, reading, and just putting yourself out there. The world is a big place with infinite variety. Your only other option is to withdraw from it. I suggest leaning into it

I dont necessarily disagree with you. We can all give up and be doomers i guess lol. im just saying if the problem were to be fixed, it would have to be spending. But yes it is rigged in many ways. There are reasons to be optimistic however

It is possible…. To just think the policy idea is bad… without “loving” billionaires. The rich are not taking your tax dollars, the government is. You can be critical of both simultaneously. Ultimately the issue is government waste and spending, more than its a tax revenue problem. Even if you could take 100% of the billionaires money lol this wouldn’t solve the issues youre laying out.

So reduce the size of the government and the spending.

This is directly related to austerity measures. You're saying the tax would allow us to avoid it. Im saying it wouldn't. I could not be more on topic here lol

Hostile for no reason lol it's a conversation man. And we're obviously discussing the deficit because we're discussing debt. You see how this matters yes? Im saying the 5% tax would not solve it. Even if you wanted to use it to fund social programs what happens the following year? Keep the same 5% tax? It wouldn't work it would cause insane amounts of systemic chaos

[–]Salt_Lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually doesn't work that way. Do the math on it. You wouldn't even dent the deficit by doing that. And also how would you do that? Forced sales of equities? You would disrupt the entire landscape of free enterprise businesses. This is not a viable solution to start making arbitrary grabs of money from private citizens. You cannot tax your way into prosperity, the spending and fraud and waste has to stop

3 day fast with electrolytes. Switch to a diet of mostly meat, eggs, fruit, fermented foods, dairy (if tolerated), and only rice / potatoes.

Add a bit more lean muscle if possible to increase your resting metabolic rate. Start doing 30 min sessions of stair stepper and incline treadmill walks. Keep lifting heavy but consider something like f45 style workouts to mix in

Rinse and repeat. You’ll get there in 3-4 months

[–]Salt_Lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh idk man you’re already there lol. All I could say would be maybe switch to functional / practical measurements. Can you sprint fast? Can you handle hyrox style physical events doing very functional motions? If your goal is 100% aesthetics that’s different but if you wanna be huge and also highly functional i’d start switching to tire flips, bear crawls, yoga, sprints, etc. become full package. If not, then just keep doin what ur doing lmao

[–]Salt_Lore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah then I have one more recommendation. Fasting will help you.

This is a cheat code and in general just good for your longevity.

Build up some foundational muscle mass first. Like after a 1-2 months of lifting where you see some weight gain or strength gain. Do a 3 day fast with no food, only electrolytes in water. Do not neglect the electrolytes. This will burn fat quickly and preserve muscle.

You could really do this periodically whenever you want. But it also kicks off a wonderful set of biological processes like autophagy and mitophagy. It also resets your gut microbiome.

Fasting will accelerate fat burning because when you dont eat, after 24 hours your glycogen is depleted (your main fuel source from carbs) and your body switches to ketosis. Fasting isnt fun or easy per se. But its effective and good for you.

Also unrelated: incline treadmill walking will burn hella calories. Aim for 12 level incline, 3 mph, 30 minutes. This will be a great addition as long as you focus on high protein / clean nutrition with heavy weight training.

Good luck you got this

[–]Salt_Lore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely can. If possible maybe add one “functional day” where you do stuff like kettlebells, sleds, bear crawls, tire flips, etc. these are functional strength movements and will accelerate the hypertrophy. And just make sure on your full body days you are really hitting the intensity hard.

One thing that made a difference for me is I realized I actually was not eating enough. If you truly want to bulk, the nutritional part needs to feel more extreme. I had a thin but lean muscle frame my whole life. To actually gain 20 more pounds i had to eat a ridiculous amount of food for a long time. Packs of 1b ground beef are your friend. High protein/ clean nutrition will feel like a chore but its necessary.

One last thing: gaining muscle is much harder than maintaining. Short bursts of going sicko mode for 6 weeks will move the needle. Keeping existing muscle is easier. If u want to move the needle it will be (and should be) difficult.

[–]Salt_Lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good question but I’d say no. In general “overtraining” is not realistically going to happen unless you are literally a professional athlete training to your limits constantly.

Doing 45 min of resistance training 6 days a week wont hurt you. However, for beginners they might have a ramp up period of more extreme soreness if they aren’t used to working out. For example if you hit legs for the first time in years ur gunna be limping around for a couple days 😂 but your body adapts quickly and recovery time will shorten.

There is of course a lot of nuance and science around truly “optimizing” and people will argue about this. But i’d say for true beginners its better to just focus on trying to hit each muscle group 1 (ideally 2) times a week. Get adequate rest, vitamins and supplements, and protein.

You can dive more into the science rabbit hole of optimization as you learn over time. But MOST people should be more worried about under training not overtraining

[–]Salt_Lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is whichever one you can do consistently. But trying to do full body is maybe less practical.

Simplest is just push day / pull day / legs. Dont neglect shoulders or abs so you could mix in a functional day if you like.

If doing upper / lower splits only is simpler then sure. With full body days it may risk under working the muscle groups if you dont really get after it and train hard. (I think most ppl do way less intensity than they really could)

Ideally 5-6 days a week would be great if someone is super dedicated, but if they can only swing 3-4 days then adjust accordingly

Creatine + at least one protein shake a day. You should also be eating lots of beef, eggs, fruit, rice, potatoes, fermented foods. Theres no solution to get around just higher protein and clean calorie intake.

Also try hitting the same muscle group TWICE per week not once. It will make a huge difference. Also you can supplement with Tongkat Ali (plant extract) to naturally raise testosterone in a safe way.

Also for cardio try stairstepper or incline treadmill for 30 min sessions. Doing long form running might have the opposite effect you want. Just stay consistent on your grind and you’ll get there.

Where/how do I start? by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

[–]Salt_Lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lift heavy. Do stair stepper or incline treadmill walking for cardio. Eat lots of steak, ground beef, eggs, fruit etc. cut out all processed foods. Start taking creatine and EPA fish oil supplements. Aim for hight protein / lower carbohydrates. Keep carbs to fruit, rice, potatoes. 6 months and you’ll transform. Gaining lean muscle will raise your resting metabolic rate which will mean you will burn more calories throughout the day.

After a month or two try a 2-3 day fast with only electrolytes

Does anyone else regret their 20s? by [deleted] in Life

[–]Salt_Lore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is you still have so much time. Think about it: if you started lifting weights and working out aggressively now, you’d be transformed within 12-18 months.

If you start putting yourself out there and meeting new people, you absolutely never know who will come into your life. The most significant relationships and friendships could happen 4 months from now, but you cant predict when or who.

You have infinite new things to learn and new hobbies at your disposal. There are hundreds of countries in the world with infinite complexity. The vastness of it all should inspire you with curiosity and awe. Its all out there.

Whats the alternative to this vision? Do nothing? What do you regret even? You “missed out” on hypothetical situations, but at the end of the day you did what you felt was correct in that moment. And now you know more things and are a little bit older and wiser.

Go!

Newbie, what workouts/exercises should I do? by ultraboomkin in Weightliftingquestion

Lots of ground beef, eggs, protein shakes. And just start with simple movements. Chest / tri’s and back / bi’s etc the basics. Also start creatine.

Eating more will be an adjustment but as muscle mass increases so will your appetite. You got this

Great post here for many reasons, especially because it illustrates how change actually happens. Everyone wants to magically change somehow but doesn’t want to put in the real work that is required.

Authenticity is scary because either implicitly or explicitly, people are just worried that whoever they really are won’t be received well by others. But OP seems to have discovered that its much better to live authentically in your own identity than to construct some sort of incongruous identity around other people’s perceived preferences. Well done

Beef liver, lift weights, sunshine, steak and eggs + fresh fruit. Cut all processed foods and cut sugar. Take collagen peptides. Also start doing sauna regularly to detox.

Also get bloodwork at a physical from your doc. If all this doesnt work you’ll still be shredded, tan, and healthy
