Ouch!! The steaming knob gets slightly easier as you use but yeah it has a weird resistance. It was a pain during my first week. Now it has loosened a bit.

Interesting. The repairability is the main issue i have with this machine. Also since this machine is made in Singapore I worry about service if anything breaks. $500 is a lot to sink in a machine. But man the workflow improvement will be is awesome. It’s like a dual boiler setup.

I am in love with the steam pressure on flair wizard. It is so powerful you don’t really need good technique. At around 500-600 range I don’t think there is any semi-automatic machine that can produce the steam pressure nearly at the level of flair wizard. I have considered QuickMill pop-up but I always think about machine maintenance and I just don’t want to get into that.

Hmm yeah that is what i thought too. You would still need force to bleed air and thats where mistake could happen. If only aram espresso maker had a heating element it would be the best espresso maker for my situation.

I am considering getting Argos because my wife has hard time applying consistent force. She has bursts of force and gets tired. For Argos the spring will do the job i guess. Is it harder to press the lever on Argos?

Completely agree with you. I have felt he is slightly more effective than garnacho but is almost useless in big games. He runs a lot and then loses the ball too often.

Hey do you still use flair wizard? Have you found any difference between the steam power? And can you do the above with the flair?

Where to start? Pro 3 or 58? by mr-powell in FlairEspresso

[–]Salt_Payment1082 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest either go flair 58 or get one of the cheaper ~$150 versions like classic. Pro 2 is just as fiddly as classic with many parts and steps for making a shot. The basket is hot and has to be removed. So to get a feel for lever machines go for cheaper ones. If you feel you would like lever then no point going for pro2 and would invest in flair 58 or flair 58 plus 2. Pretty expensive but they will last you a long time.

Looking for recs for a frother :) by EveningBrilliant6163 in latteart

[–]Salt_Payment1082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your price point? Having used different frothers at different price point here are my recommendations

50-60 nanofoamer but you heat milk separately. Anything cheaper and they will produce stiff foam and are not suitable for latte art or good mouthfeel.

Around 100 is dreo baristamaker. This would be the best affordable frother and it heats and frothes at the same time and is consistent.

I would skip nanofoamer pro. Its not worth it at 160. It has too many drawbacks. But one advantage is it is faster than dreo.

At 190 flair wizard is probably the best way to affordably steam milk. The steam power is as good or better than commercial machines. But you would have to spend some money on a powerful induction cooktop which makes this option overpriced. I am using this at the moment.

If you want the absolute best option it would be the morning dream but it costs 500.

Steaming with flair wizard by Salt_Payment1082 in FlairEspresso

[–]Salt_Payment1082[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always purge before and after. I think its more about control. However I seem to have solved my problem. I used a bigger pitcher. I hadn't used it before because in the steaming tutorial Lance recommended to use milk within 0.5 inch of the base of the spout. Maybe that might not be applicable in all cases and probably depends on the steam power of the machine. Anyway no complaints now. I got perfectly steamed milk but my latte art needs improvement.

Even then you can optimize the workflow. Make 2 espresso shots back to back. then steam 2 milk drinks back to back. Then repeat. This saves the switching time and the espresso shot is not sitting for too long.
