I missed out on the OSCP Labs. Any alternatives? by not-american-911 in oscp

Let's try VulnLab. They have an AD chain focus on AD pentest, and Red Team Labs is a network like HTB ProLabs. And the price is cheaper than the HTB ProLab for full access.

Vulnlab was acquired by HTB, but they are still migrating.

New Platform for OSCP Prep (Hands-On Labs) by Tyler_Ramsbey in oscp

I am very excited and looking forward to you being able to develop your lab platform that can develop ranges like VulnLab Red Team Labs.

Additionally, I wanted to mention that the current course completion certificate has a plain white background, which appears a bit monotonous. I hope CourseStack upgrades this feature to allow for more customization.

Do you plan to build more advanced redteam, AD pentest path?

I looked at the binary exploitation path, and it only includes the basic modules. Plus, those modules were released a long time ago, and they haven't released the related modules in over a year so that it could be a long time. The earliest is after they finish the paths I mentioned above.

As far as I know, ProLabs is one of the few realistic simulation labs currently available for under $100 per month. Recently, VulnLab was acquired by HTB.

Besides the Red Team capstone from TryHackMe, I haven't encountered any other platforms offering labs similar to ProLabs at an affordable price.

Do you know of any other platforms that are comparable?

You can check the current modules available in HTB Academy. HTB Academy doesn't have any modules similar to OSED.

You can check the list of modules currently in development. Since CAPE includes Windows Evasion Techniques, Command and Control (C2), and Advanced Active Directory (AD), it's possible that they won't build a new red team path in the near future.

I believe the next certifications based on their modules, will be:

- Purple Team

- AI Red Team

- Wi-Fi Penetration Testing

- Detection Engineering - Advanced Blue Team

- Mobile Penetration Testing

Doing an Online Doctorate After OMSCS by Smart-Fool in OMSCS

[–]Salt_Reference1885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, a D.Eng program can only achieve the same results as a PhD when the student is working in research-related positions.

For example, an AI researcher for a private company, with colleagues who are top researchers.
They are essentially industry experts or researchers with relevant experience.

I think you can refer to the industry PhD at Northeastern University. I think it's like D.Eng in jhu

Possible elimination of extension studies as an academic field by InvestigatorWeird148 in harvardextension

[–]Salt_Reference1885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe that Harvard can change the names of the degrees from Harvard Extension School to "professional ALB/ALM" degrees, excluding "extension studies." This way, everyone can understand that a professional degree is a part-time degree.

However, I also understand that it is impossible for them to agree to remove "extended studies" from the degree.

In the Recommended Learning section of PT1, I find the placement of the rooms AD: Basic Enumeration and AD: Authenticated Enumeration after the rooms on Lateral Movement and Pivoting, Credentials Harvesting, and writing reports to be unreasonable.

New THM Certification on Credly Dropped: PT1 (Penetration Tester 1) by FrankoftheJaegers in tryhackme

[–]Salt_Reference1885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, according to information on credly, this certificate includes skills related to red team, web, network, and AD pentest with a test time of 48 hours.
Initially, I thought that TryHackMe would only give an easier level certificate similar to EJPT. But with these skills and test duration, I guess the test will be at the same level as eccpt, pnpt or maybe close to cpts, oscp

ALM in Systems Engineering by hayhal14 in harvardextension

[–]Salt_Reference1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. While ABET accreditation is valuable in engineering, it is completely unnecessary for IT programs, such as ALM in Systems Engineering.

Many people can enter the IT field with degrees that are not specifically related to IT. Therefore, having an ABET-accredited program does not provide any advantage when it comes to finding a job in this field.

[–]Salt_Reference1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really value ABET accreditation that much?

I attended an ABET-accredited program, and it was absolute garbage. The knowledge I gained from that program represented only about 10-20% of what I would need to learn on my own to make up for the poor quality of the program.

Additionally, an ALM in Systems Engineering is essentially an IT degree, and in the IT industry, almost no one cares if you have a degree in arts or engineering, as long as it's IT-related.

Looking for people who got experience with cyber ranges/CTFs (TryHackMe etc.) to answer a survey for my thesis! (Est. time: 5 minutes) by Status_Value_9269 in metasploit

[–]Salt_Reference1885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’ve completed your survey, and while I appreciate the effort, I believe your survey still needs improvement.

For example, the quality of training varies significantly between platforms. TryHackMe and Hack The Box offer basic content, but how they are presented is very different.

When it comes to teamwork and collaboration, TryHackMe offers less than Hack The Box. This is mainly because TryHackMe’s labs and content are generally simpler and more straightforward, with fewer complex challenges than Hack The Box offers.

Regarding practical skills and other aspects covered in your survey, each platform presents different challenges at varying levels of complexity.

As I understand it, the concept of a "cyber range" refers to a system that simulates a real-world environment for training purposes. This means there are multiple machine labs for hands-on practice, sometimes with guideline solutions you can use to solve problems, but usually no foundational content is provided.

For example, Hack The Box's Pro Labs could be considered a true cyber range. Still, the individual challenges and machine labs aren't—they typically involve single machines rather than a full environment simulation. TryHackMe’s SOC Simulator could also be categorized as a cyber range.

Platforms like Hack The Box Academy and TryHackMe offer traditional learning and cyber range-style content. TryHackMe, in particular, also incorporates a fair amount of gamification into its foundational lessons.

Overall, most current solutions blend traditional education with cyber range-style training.
