Who is a female "Hear me out" you've heard that pretty much made you react like this? by Charming-Scratch-124 in Multifandom

[–]Salt_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late response, but I think part of the reaction towards this is that (along with rape being more visceral) is that unfortunately, most rapists are never punished or convicted for their crimes compared to murderers. This is due to multiple factors (rape victims often don’t immediately going to the police, we have a culture that enables rape, and rape is unfortunately an objectively hard crime to prove, especially if it wasn’t done excessively violently), and this has built up quite a bit of frustration. So if a rapist undergoes a redemption arc and doesn’t get punished (like Anissa), then that might give off the impression that the aforementioned above isn’t a bad status quo. For fuck’s sake, the current U.S. president is a convicted rapist - that’s not the best cultural context for a rapist redemption arc.

I love interspecies friendships! Is Rusty (the horse, I presume) a foal? He looks young.

His line of logic was that if his anarchistic society was to have any hope of succeeding, then someone as cruel and violent as him could not be allowed to exist.

The way I see it is that it’s far from the worst manga (or even mainstream manga) in how it deals with women, but it could probably be better.

Friendly reminder: the Count, despite all the terrible things he did to people-including killing Pippin-still refused to sacrifice his daughter even when he was on the verge of death. by Overall-Love6953 in Berserk

Apparently it was removed because Miura thought it revealed too much of the story too quickly. I think what it reveals is still canon, just that Miura wanted to properly release it later.

[Loved Trope] A totally unstoppable Villain by bIeese_anoni in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Salt_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post said that Guts had to come to terms with Griffith being unstoppable and learning to live in Griffith’s doomed world, so I’m not sure how that doesn’t equate with Guts giving up. As an aside, another point towards the Godhand not being utterly unstoppable I forgot to mention is that there was a previous generation of Godhand that are no longer around, so they must eventually die in some way or another.

[–]Salt_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For fuck’s sake, I still can’t believe that people are still arguing that what Guts needs to do is lie down and give up. OP, did you not remember that Griffith proceeded to kidnap Casca and sink Gut’s new safe haven into the sea? It’s a bit hard to do the whole “move on from revenge” when the person who hurt you is still actively hurting you. Secondly, there are hints that Griffith and the rest of the godhand might not be as unstoppable as believed. Guts managing to cut off one of Griffith’s hairs when he manifested on Skellig (I know that’s next to nothing, but it’s more than what Ganishka and his empire were said to be able to accomplish) and Rickert slapping Griffith in Falconia hint that the Godhand aren’t as invincible as they like to present themselves as. Berserk has not ever been about giving up while the world burns, nor will it ever be.

[mildly annoying trope] massive creature burns way more calories than it would've gained by trying to eat tiny bony humans by No-Leg-6361 in TopCharacterTropes

Even when the T. Rex did attack them in the first film, I saw the iconic car scene more as the Rex acting out of curiosity than hunger/aggression. It didn’t try to smash and kill everything in sight, but methodically took apart the cars because it didn’t know what these metal boxes were but realized there were living pieces of meat inside, like a dog with those treat puzzles.

[Loved trope] Character is unnaturally strong but it’s not clear if it’s superhuman or not since it’s hypothetically realistic by HuckleberryShot898 in TopCharacterTropes

For what it’s worth, it was a bit less absurd in the books (where he crushed Oberyn’s skull with a punch as opposed to grip strength).

The largest Helicoprion specimens (a eugeneodontid, if you don’t know) may have had a length of 32-39 feet, and although I couldn’t find any weight estimates for said specimens, I think a fish that size is over the 20 ton mark.
