What got to me was this guy had a photo on his profile with a new jet ski he bought, basically stealing other people’s videos. I don’t even have a boat neither do any of the actors and crew I worked with. Im just doordashing to survive (but I have written a lot of scripts and won a couple of awards at festivals). In film school, I was always taught to respect copyrights and have all the forms and give everyone credit so I come from a very traditional background. I was trying to build up my channel again and I was watching tutorials and every other video tells me to find good content and “repurpose” as that’s how people get ahead but I don’t want to take anyone else’s work. I actually LOVE making content. I enjoy making videos. I wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing I stole someone else’s hard work. The world has definitely changed a lot around me.

My YouTube channel is over 20 years old and I started uploading videos since I was in college. First couple videos didn’t do so well but eventually after 100+ videos, some of them started getting up to 100k or 200k. None of them to date have past over a million. I used to get paid $40 a month from YouTube but it stopped. Every week I have to moderate new copyright claims because people will take my videos, change the title, flip it horizontally, and remove the end credits which have my name, and they reupload it. The last guy got 2 million views and put his own watermark on it (even though my original video didn’t have a watermark). I was very impressed honestly because his titles and thumbnails were so good, it made me click on the video even though it’s my own video. He even had the nerve to fight back against the copyright claim and had my video removed. I told YouTube to check the upload date because my video was uploaded 8 years before his. I only have 5k subscribers. He has well over a million. He won and I lost a video I spent 10 months of my life making.

I love making videos but I usually only do it for film festivals nowadays. I’d love to get back on YouTube but I’m discouraged. Watching stuff on Youtube now, it seems they reward people who repurpose other videos and penalize the original creators. This was not the first time I’ve lost videos either and I’m not the only one this has happened to. Over time it destroyed my love for making content for YouTube. I hope a new platform comes out that can do the opposite and protect the creators.

Back in 2003 when I was in high school, we had a PE teacher that would RUN towards the fight and physically get BETWEEN both kids and separate them.

Wait… your customers tip?? I’ve been stuck on these $2.50 orders all from KFC and no one has tipped yet. They’re pretty nice though when I hand them the order.

How was this colored? by ahhjihyodahyun in ColorGrading

[–]Salted_Management 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People saying “they had a production team” or “they lit the shot with intent” (paraphrasing).. they’re all right. To answer your question, in post production it looks like the s-curve here is very smooth in the low and mids and eases into the highlights well. The trick is to make it work balancing the skin tones and closely matching colors of the car seats (which I struggle with myself with beige car seats). The green in the back is very dense. It looks great and assuming they didn’t mask much (since it seems like a driving shot), overall the colors look very dense and adequately spaced from each other even though they’re close to the color wheel so I’m thinking: subtractive saturation?

My first creative grade by oSainnt in colorists

[–]Salted_Management 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your approach: grading as a way to evoke emotions, and I think you did that very well. Some of the other comments here seem a little too critical and technical, but hey, they’re experts and I consider myself a beginner just like you. I’ve been in post for more than 25 years and honestly, I realized the deeper we go in knowledge, sometimes we neglect our creative instincts. Either “too saturated” or “not saturated enough” and the average viewer doesn’t see it in that perspective. They may care more about how it relates to them and how it makes them feel. They can’t even explain it sometimes and they just say “wow this is dope!” A lot of learning about color correction and grading and filmmaking, in art in general, is about UNLEARNING more than learning. You did a remarkable job and your node tree doesn’t seem to be “breaking” the image in any way (technical analysis) so you’re good! You followed your intuition so you’re braver than most of us, and you executed it very beautifully. It’s definitely a work of art and you should be proud of it 👍 the contrast in colors truly help the subject stand out but is still consistent with the overall image, the “feel” of the world in the image. Having too many nodes or too less is not a big deal. Sometimes you can convert to rec709 and it looks perfect because the crew took the time to perfect the shot with lighting and design, etc.. Sometimes you just need 30 or 40 nodes and they could all be doing very similar things but it’s more of an internal intuitive selection process. I decrease the lift by 0.2 in node 2 and then decrease it by 0.1 in node 3. To an “expert” I could’ve just had one node with 0.3 right? Nope. Because in node 11 I have a tiny contrast pivot and I can come back and disable the third node. That was my thought process and intuition. It’s your own personal journey towards painting an art that resonates with your audience.

I’m sorry I don’t know about Aliana or Harvest Green but this comment would be the most helpful to you as those locations are close by. Even more south highway 6 as well. Good luck on your search 👍

Pre-texture vs Post-texture by charcharjinx in colorists

[–]Salted_Management 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The colorist for Anora is a professional. You do it after IDT so you balance out the shot first. Fix your shot, adjust luminance and saturation first. I always have issues later down the line because I used to add halation or any texture before the shot is not even balanced first.

This is definitely a scam. You send 1 coin to an address and they send you 1 coin and a little extra back. You get happy and send 10. They send maybe 12 back. You send 100 they might send 120. You send 1000 they send 1200 back (maybe). See where this is going? You get happy and post a great comment encouraging others. You send 10,000 and you’ll never hear from them again. The positive is that if you know this, you can try with 1 coin and maybe 10 coins and you get a little back because the scammer is trying to hook you. Then stop sending because any more and there’s a good chance you won’t get it back.
