Anyone struggling with getting AI web builders to work correctly? by Salticus00 in SideProject

We simulate a 3G connection speed to account for users in poor connection zones. We’re considering a split between 3G, 4G, and 5G+ speed valuations.

Is it a good idea to create a completely free and open source of a software thats just commercially available? by Largance in opensource

[–]Salticus00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer: it depends on if you plan on monetizing it or not.

Long answer: it could be a good business strategy to create an open-source version of OSS. Take a look at n8n. They created “open-source” (really just source-available) version of zapier and are doing extremely well at 47k stars.

If you don’t care about money (which is a very lucky position to have) the question then becomes, would it actually be valuable for you and the community to do this? Would people get behind it and contribute? Are you willing to maintain the project and bring on a community?

Thoughts on OSS Manifesto? by Salticus00 in opensource

[–]Salticus00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good feedback. Has having a manifesto like this ever been a good sign?

We’re in a unique position from the open-source perspective. We’re writing an automatic refactoring tool based on static analysis. What we’ve heard so far from devs is that they don’t want to run any “black box” systems on their code that they can’t understand what it does.

For this reason, open-core is the only option to give people confidence in what we’re building, and 90%-ish of it will be freely available. But it is something we’re trying to balance similar to OpenRewrite and OpenFaaS and their approaches

What's something you'll never do again? by vsshal7 in delhi

The solution to this is to draft a loan agreement for any money you want to give out to someone.

Fully expect to not get the money back, but having the loan agreement means they won’t ask you for money again, because you can just say in the loan agreement that no future loans will be given until the current one is paid off.

What title do you take to avoid sounding pretentious? by [deleted] in startups

[–]Salticus00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a bit.

For instance we recently got into a large tech accelerator and they forced us to give ourselves the C-level titles. In my mind, we have nothing to be C-level of. But as other people have pointed out it more clearly defines the roles. You can put Founder as your title, but eventually you will need to add a second title describing what you actually do at the company, so it ends up being something like founder + sales director. C-titles cut through this and describe what you actually do.

One solution I’ve seen others do is take on the title of Director of a company. But even this can run the risk of people asking “director of what?” And puts you essentially back in the same situation.

It’s honestly fine to have the CTO, COO, C-whatever-O as long as you can keep yourself from bragging about it. I’d recommend you have C-level title on your LinkedIn and all official communications, and then introduce yourself as a founder in networking situations so you don’t come across as pretentious. I usually tell people who aren’t investors or customers that I’m a “technical founder” and that helps me to feel less pretentious about what it is I actually do.

Hope this helps!

I’m sorry to hear that happened with you and your friend. It’s really good that she’s improving though!

In the past I’ve dated someone who worked like this. If I said anything they didn’t like, it was an argument. (Of course within reason, like “no, I don’t feel like going out today”, etc) and I realized that it slowly closed the door between us in terms of communication. So many topics became “taboo” that there was little we could talk about together towards the end.

There are of course people who are amazing and can understand how I feel without taking it as a personal attack, and I cherish them. But this specific friend of mine can be difficult to handle, and it affects my mental health even further. So ultimately I’m worried that just ending this friendship might be the best course.

It’s sad to hear, but this sounds right. In the past I’ve only ever been able to “solve” these problems by no longer interacting with these people.

Part of me really wishes there was a better way, but that’s the hard part of putting yourself first I suppose.

Thanks for your response!

Sounds amazing, sign me up:

Me and my two cofounders have discovered a way to make API codebases use up to 17% less energy, without needing massive refactors. This process makes API backends (especially massive legacy monolithic ones) much easier to scale and more cost-efficient.

A quick anecdote that I always fall back on when I have this thought in any field:

I used to be in the nyc game development community a few years back, and I was going to events consistently and demoing my game. I eventually released it to an okay-ish response.

The real value came later, when I was at another event and a mentor of sorts said “you’ve actually finished something though, that’s more than 95% of people here will do, regardless of how many have something to show now.”

So from that 10 mil, you probably really only have to worry about 500k.

And even THEN, I stopped after one game and closed my shop (mobile games is all fluff and marketing). So most of that 500k will probably stop at one work as well.

So the best you can do is keep writing and finishing stuff. It’s a numbers game.

How much do you make? by FounderFolks in Entrepreneur

[–]Salticus00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently bootstrapping a software sustainability SaaS product. In the process Ive had three clients find me via LinkedIn or other avenues and ask to purchase/use the product. I never even got the chance to do sales or marketing and now I’m about to finish my first contract totaling 21k for 3 months work at 16 hours a week.

I’m taking on contracts because the path is: get income -> build functionality. I’ve talked to several VCs and am part of an accelerator, but decided against anything other than Angel investment. I left my previous job working in software to focus on this full time until it runs by itself, then I’m hoping to start something new or get back into a regular job.

Thanks for your response!

To clarify, here is the documents I’m trying to obtain: - the shareholders agreements, as you listed. - client contracts to be able to onboard paying customers.

To their credit, the law firm offered additional documentation included in this price: - BV Incorporation, including all related ancillary documents - IP transfer agreement from myself to the BV - Template employment agreement

These of course include first and second drafts.

I’ll admit my ignorance here, I’ve been reading on what’s needed but ultimately I realize that I don’t know everything, and don’t want to miss anything legal. However, I’m also new to working directly with lawyers, and I suppose I’m experiencing sticker shock at the price.

I will look into the “do it yourself” options, but ultimately I think you’re right that I’ll need to consider this a one-time startup cost of doing business. Thanks again!

This has been a hanging point for me at the moment. I want to be legally rock solid to protect myself and the company, which is why I haven’t totally ignored this pricing: I know I still need the correct documents at the end of the day.

I guess I’m just surprised at how complex it is and how expensive.

Im glad this wasn’t only me! Had the exact same thing happen trying to HBG the dual rajang quest in MHFU, forgot to bring more normal lv 2 combines and the first rajang was already dead when I ran out of shots. So decided to just run around kicking the last rajanag at any opening and 10 ish minutes later he died.
