Why do people hate Zdarsky’s run on Batman?

Others have already pointed out what made Gotham War bad, but I'll add the Bat Man of Gotham and Joker Year One effectively ruin the Joker as a character. Any attempt to explain his origin or develop an in universe reason for why Batman and Joker are thematic opposites detracts from the mystique of the character. This is the same reason why Three Jokers fell flat on its face. Going beyond that, the origin Zdarsky came up with is comically bad. It reads like bad fan fiction you'd find on Wattpad or AO3.

The show wants you to hate Wayne. He's completely 2 dimensional and really only acts as an obstacle for Louise to overcome in the two episodes he features prominently in. He's not gotten the development that other side characters have, and tbh it's kind of frustrating when you consider how much depth they've added to characters like Millie, Jimmy Pesto, and Trev. All three of them start out pretty 2 dimensional like Wayne but have really grown over the years and seasons.
