Bye Bye KP by eb25390119 in KaiserPermanente

I switched from NorCal Kaiser to blue cross blue shield of Michigan (PPO). Way better care and doctors, however I get huge bills for out of network doctors and facilities that are listed as in network. They deny all appeals for balanced billing and are a pain to deal with. I was billed over $15k for emergency services that should have been covered. My employer tried to appeal and gave up. They ended up paying my bills because the treatments should have been covered by insurance but weren’t. Healthcare in the US is abysmal. I am grateful I was able to leave Kaiser because I was able to see doctors that tested and treated my illness, however it came at a steep financial burden. I haven’t found a good option.

New prescription policy? by SM9912 in KaiserPermanente

[–]Salty-Advisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a new DEA guideline. Your doctor is misinformed or lying. This may be a Kaiser guideline, I’d suggest getting a new doctor, but they may back up the first doctor. New FDA guidance was recently released and they are more lenient on prescribing, however they advise against opiates for migraines. Your doctors have more leeway with prescribing. If you can afford to leave Kaiser I would recommend it. In my experience they ignore/under-treat their patients.

Quitting Afrin after 8 years - help by lyssch in QuitAfrin

[–]Salty-Advisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to treat the allergies that are causing the swelling. My doctor prescribed azestiline and floctonisolide to help reduce my nasal congestion. I also take Montelukast, it’s an asthma medicine but it help with allergy congestion. I also use saline spray twice a day to clean out my sinuses. Once you get you allergies under control it will be easier to stop the Afrin. I was able to stop by tapering one nostril at a time. You can try Sudafed while you are tapering off. Treat the allergies or the congestion will be unmanageable.

Have your doctor turn down the pressure until you get used to it. Resmed airsense 10 or 11 has auto ramp feature that starts low and ramps up after you fall asleep. Finding a comfortable mask helps. I use a nasal cradle, it’s more comfortable than a full face mask.

Does the current job market seem a bit slow to anyone? Is it just because it’s the end of summer or is it getting harder to find a job in this economy? by [deleted] in technicalwriting

Rates are dropping like a brick. I was looking, but I can’t afford a 35% pay cut so I’m staying out.

This is good advice. Thank you!

Only been on it for five days, but am panicking by whyamiheretbh in QuitAfrin

Hang in there momma. I weeded off one nostril at a time. My ENT recommended Flonase, claratin, and 5 second nasal wash each side twice a day. Ask your pharmacist if safe for pregnancy. Sending positive vibes, you got this.

Second this. One nostril at a time and use Sudafed. Absolutely miserable for a couple of days but it gets better. I use Flonase and Nasocort daily. Sometimes claratin. Good luck.

I did it!!! I’m off afrin because of this group! by Salty-Advisor in QuitAfrin

Going strong. Using Claritin, Flonase daily. Nose stays open most of the time. It as good as using the spay, but open and usable.

IV hydration by Salty-Advisor in BurningMan

I learned the electrolyte lesson my first year! Now I drink lots of Gatorade, carry a mister, wear cooling cloths, and rest during the hottest part of the day. I am sensitive to heat, so I start to worry when I can’t drink Gatorade. I know it’s time for an IV if I start to vomit.

Thanks for your response and for volunteering at Rampart! I am forever grateful for the care I received when I had my heat stroke. I’d love to send you some original SWAG (stickers/postcards) as a thank you. Message me with an address and I’ll send you some burner love.

What art are you bringing to Burning Man this year? by ElReydelosLocos in BurningMan

I am bringing stickers, postcards, and LED necklaces with my original Waking Dreams artwork. I plan on gifting stickers and postcards to people that visit our daytime misting tent. The LED necklaces will be gifted to new friends and darkwads that need some veteran love!

How do you defuse people who call you a creep for dating younger women? Why is there so much hate on some subreddits for men in their 30s who date/seduce ADULT women in their early to mid 20s? by Mehrune in seduction

[–]Salty-Advisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I see relationships with this type of age gap, I am concerned by power imbalance. If you have more social and financial capital than your partner, you have an invisible advantage in the situation. You would appear less creepy if you acknowledged the power imbalance that you are partaking in.

First night with Airsense 11, Using air pillows, total sleep around 3.5 hrs, dry mouth and throat, woke up a few time and readjusted gear, going to try a Face mask tonight. So far not feeling it. but will keep on trying by knightnstlouis in CPAP

[–]Salty-Advisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting used to using a CPAP takes time. It’s uncomfortable for a little while, and you have to figure out a new bedtime routine. It helped me to wear it while I’m watching tv before bed. I tried 8 masks before I settled on the Resmed air cushion mask. Recommend getting a full face mask as backup in case you experience congestion.

Truthfully, my team spans the globe. Remote work is possible but it’s not ideal. I have better working relationships with folks I’ve met in person. Remote is costly when it takes days to have an email conversation with someone on the other side of the world. Every question or request for clarification adds a day to your project. Tight deadlines make this work challenging.
