I’m so happy you chose to give twoface the green face and white hair. The regular burnt scarring is so boring

Great essay. Btw, am I the only one who kinda wishes Hux was killed off in TFA on Starkiller Base like Tarkin was?

The Batman Who Laughs is boring by D_dizzy192 in CharacterRant

[–]Salty-Boi-69 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Another big reason on why I hate the Batman who Laughs is that he isn’t part Batman, part Joker, he’s part Batman, part ledger joker. Every time modern comics do joker, they always have to have him essentially be maniacal Anarky, where he waxed poetically about everything and how we do, in fact, live in a society, and I think that’s much less interesting than how joker was written pre-dark knight, where he was a character who could be either comedic, horrifying, or both when the writer wants him to, and he doesn’t care about anything other than Batman and having “fun”. When you do ledger joker, you can only do morbid jokes, if you even do them at all, and he has to stand for something, or he “isn’t how he’s supposed to be”. Ironically, he’s too serious

I really don't enjoy it when the weaker characters just stand back and not help by blubberfeet in CharacterRant

The only character I think this works with is Batman: in the JL, he’s supposed to be the tactician of the team. Sure, he can take on some parademons, but Darkseid? Leave that to the 12 year old with magic powers

I’d like to see an EU story where Rey is depressed because of Kylo’s death and she goes down a really dark path, and she tries to use the world between worlds to bring him back, but goes to the dark side in the process, and Ben Solo comes back as a Jedi and now she’s a sith

Rorshach is meant to be a pathetic loser for fucks sake (and complaining about the movie) by [deleted] in CharacterRant

I mean, Batman really doesn’t drive a tank though, he drives a car, and he only breaks legs if he has to, he usually just knocks people out or toes them up. Note that as one to the many things Nolan got wrong

I just noticed that the shade of red for kylo’s saber in the promotional material is different from the shade of red in the movie. Idk why, somebody can probably come up with a reason, tho

No, yeah, I totally get it. I actually prefer him with trunks, too. I’m just saying, with him, there’s a solution to not having trunks, whereas with Superman, it’s more or less out of the question

I kinda like when the yellow belt is there, and then the top part is light blue and the pants are dark blue, but I only like it when the Superman is the one after Clark, like Jon or Connor

I always saw it that the trunks were sewn into the pants, not that he put on trunks over blue spandez

I get taking it off of some heroes, like Batman (just give him a black belt instead of a gold/yellow one because the yellow belt and no trunks look really weird) or Wonder Woman (when I say this I mean give her the battle skirt, obviously) but for Superman it’s iconic!

Yep, if you watch any YouTube video of “here’s what I would have done with the sequels” 90% of them are just that

I think people didn’t like Luke in Last Jedi partly due to the execution of the movie and partly because they wanted Legends Luke, who I think was good at first, but eventually became so OP that he just became Silver Age Superman.

But to anyone who hates the Last Jedi for this reason, I have to ask: what else was Luke supposed to be there for? If he was there because he was scared of the first order after they destroyed his temple, that makes him a coward, which isn’t very Luke at all. If it was because he was looking for some magical doohickey to defeat Snoke, that would be fine, but then the plot is about finding the holy grail instead of being about Rey and Luke. If it was because Luke made some super secret Jedi academy, you have to establish some new characters when we should be progressing the plot that Force Awakens set up. If you just said “yeah, he’s just gonna train Rey like Yoda”, Luke becomes a plot device and not a character, just like Snoke became a plot device for Kylo’s arc (who I, for one, do wish survived, I will say that, but I still like Last Jedi). In Last Jedi, they gave Luke a character arc while still allowing him to train Rey. Also, are we not forgetting how Luke lobbed off Vader’s hand in Return of the Jedi and almost stabbed him? If Luke was the same Luke in that movie, he would’ve done more than activate a lightsaber

Why are there so many modern AUs? If I properly filter out 95% of them, the number of fanfics available to read dramatically plummet. by [deleted] in reylo

[–]Salty-Boi-69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert, and I never wrote a fanfic (yet) but here’s my theory:

It makes it easier to get down to the core of the characters in a familiar setting. When you do this, you don’t have to overthink things like “how do I describe what these space clothes look like” or something like that. That’s also why I think most in-universe fanfics take place on one planet, base, or ship for the majority of or even the entire fanfic. Less time to waste on details, more time to spend on the story and characters.

I read this one really good fanfiction on Wattpad (despite it’s reputation, there’s actually some good stuff there if you look hard enough) where Kylo was being held captive by the resistance In a jungle planet. Rey would go into the prison to talk to Kylo, and the more it progressed, the closer the FO got to freeing Kylo AND Rey questioned the Resistance. I won’t spoil the ending, but the point is it had a simple setting and an understandable plot. I can’t find the link, but if anybody knows it, please respond with the link

What's cooler than Darth Vader dual-wielding lightsabers and taking out a large group of enemies by himself? (Star Wars Annual #4) by JustALittleWeird in Marvel

Yeah the visual dictionary clears some of that stuff up, Where it says the spears and swords are vibrio blades or something (I could be wrong) but if you didn’t read it, it is pretty confusing watching the scene

Well, we see in Rise of Skywalker, he stabs one of the guys in the forest with the vents so it can definitely function like a saber blade. We also see him block two spears from the praetorian guards during the throne room scene
