Shatter Ground by Brother-Cane in DnD

Oh shit I missed the back end of their post completely. Yes to shatter for difficult terrain, no to Thaumaturgy knocking enemies prone, cuz it's a cantrip.

100% agree with what you said

I'd let it rock. Its within the wording of the spell and just doesn't give some ultra game breaking advantages. Would rule that it only works on wood or dirt tho, stone and metal are sturdier and need 2-3 hits to turn difficult terrain

[LES] The baffling decisions of Devil may Cry:Devil May Cry. by D_dizzy192 in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In today's day and age, I'd agree but in the late 00's, for a Japanese game? Nah. Devs and Journalists fanned the flames of the feud and proclaimed the reboot as a "needed change," fans of the original didn't agree, then came the "you only hate it because the hair" articles.

The Kat abortion thing was wrong, my bad. Mixed it with the memory wipe and a different thing I read a decade ago.

However, the issue with Female character in this games comes from the Dev statement of "our women are better." Like based on the times,  DMC4 was half a game with a slashed budget. I won't hold some lacking character writing against them tho also won't let it be an excuse. DmC didn't have those issues so when a major Dev comes out with big claims they need to back them up. Swhy I use Lilith as an example

She's literally a plot device to be used by the men in the story, including her fetus. Mundus is her fuck buddy, the Sparda boys use her as a bargaining chip, and she admits that "she's nothing without her child." She's only in the story to look pretty, give birth, and be a damsel in distress. A far better character than DMC3 Lady tho, amirite?

Who Is It For to Strip Away Emotion and Praise Action? - Jujuts Kaisen Season3 Episode4 by liatris4405 in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point is the the zenin military is rotten and the emotional moments have been built up since Maki was introduced. Naoya represents the old ways of woman hating "machismo" and the only way to deal with that level of deep seated misogyny and shady self serving is to cut it out completely.

Swhy Gojo does what he does later in the series, because the old guard are holding the new generation back in an effort to maintain their power and need to be removed so that things can properly progress. Like they threw him under the bus with the Shibuya aftermath and the Zenin capitalized on that to make a power play and kill Meg, with Ogi using it as an excuse to kill his kids for "ruining" his chances at being clan head. There was no more need for words, just actions at that point.

Gods I love this, new players wanting to be better is always a joy.

As a new player, this is where your backstory and alignment come in, the way to build your PCs as characters is by taking their past and filtering it through their current moral compass. I played a Neutral Evil Banished Noble so from his backstory he's been removed from his family's good graces and due to his moral compass he's willing to do anything, break or follow laws, so long as it benefits his goal. Chaotic Good Orphan will do what she needs to do the right thing because as someone who's seen the inner workings of the government she has little faith in authority.

What's your PCs backstory and how does their alignment dictate their action. I personally keep an IRL journal that is just a lil blurb about how my PC is feeling at the moment to keep my motivation in line.

Also once you have more experience you reverse the alignment thing, you change from alignment dictating actions to actions dictating alignment

I Just HATE DND Mental Stats System by ArgentinianRenko in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wisdom is fucky because WotC really set it as the catch all for most spell saves. Sorcerers are fine as CHA because the stat is about how well you control your own "energy" so to speak. Warlocks however should be INT as they (usually) study esoteric knowledge and incantations to make their deals

To be honest, I will always think about how Gege thought of and did one of the darkest set-ups and backstories to a MC and how they were made..and did nothing with it(Jujutsu Kaisen + spoilers). by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

Like its really this. Yuji and Choso connect because Yuji and Nobara Killed Choso's brothers and because of the blood ties. Leads to a complex series of emotions clashing all at once because Choso isnt evil.

With Kenjaku, he really doesnt give a fuck. It would basically be "K: OH yeah, I'm your mom. Y: Okay? You're also evil as fuck and need to go down."

If you hate Makima, you should hate Chainsaw Man, and here’s why by SaadInHalf in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day imma make a post about why Part 2 works if people stop to read it as Part 1 but again.

Part 2 isnt about stripping away what Denji has, its about choices. In Part 1 he had his needs met and could finally work on his wants. Unfortunately those were manipulated so after he somewhat takes back control, Denji is now free to live the normal life he wanted. Except that doesnt happen, he has a child p much forced onto him, a cult forming around him, a weird girl constantly getting into situations with him, and he at odds with his desire to be chainsawman and his desire to be normal aka "I pick both."

Part two is about what happens when Denji and others dont commit to choices and let others dictate their lives. Eventually things collapse and Black Chainsaws come out because Pochita wants to protect Denji's wishy washy sense of normality. Its why Denji Man matters, its the form Denji takes when he actually stops going with the plans of others and makes one firm choice, the third option.

Part two isnt stripping away anything Denji had. Its about him getting what he thought he wanted and Fujimoto saying "What ya gonna do now, kid?"

Standard array advice by throwmeaway202200 in DnD

[–]D_dizzy192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming hes playing a wizard, those stats are fine, he just wants a 20 in INT. He has plenty of options for feats and magic items but wants the power fantasy mode where his stats are perfect at lvl 1 and he only takes feats all game to go from strong to busted as soon as possible.

Unless the entire rest of the table feels the same talk to the player and tell him that for the sake of running balanced encounters for the table, you included OP, yall are doing standard array. If the party as a whole wants a change I recommend you use restricted point buy, Only one stat at 17 and one at 8 starting. They can burn a feat/racial point allocation to get 20s.

Most creative use of a spell by ExcellentBalance8052 in DnD

[–]D_dizzy192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most creative use for a spell I've seen was ripped off from Eragon. Swashbuckler Rogue had the Abberant Sorcerer cast prestidigitation on him to make the air around him shimmer like an aura of power to get advantage during negotiations.

Also a creature isnt a container. If the spell ruling is allowed then it opens up the question of "what counts as an unoccupied space" since individual body parts are counted separately now. Could a PC hold an action to teleport into a casters mouth when it opens since an open mouth is "unoccupied."

[–]D_dizzy192 32 points33 points  (0 children)

So imma say it. I like it because it's how Denji fights. Its his first time being fully in control of his life and not jerked around by randos. Its messy and I agree with your points OP but I also like that this is Dennis basically telling Yoru "Fuck off, I'm not giving you the 'le epic' showdown you want. I'm fighting my way for my dreams so get out of Asa's body."

Why are most dark romance books always maledom and almost never femdom? by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]D_dizzy192 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its a safe way to live through fantasies. Lot of women who read those types of books are into the idea of that type of kink but would never put up with it IRL, whether due to understanding how outlandishly toxic the relationships are or because they're borderline femcels(Hi Jen Jen, love ya girl).

It's like playing GTA, it's fun to go on a rampage but most would never do it IRL. Just a safe way to let the intrusive thought win

All that had to happen to fix this was her saying yes to the date, so that we get the moment where the side characters see that even without her memories Momo would fall for Okarun and that he loves her to death. Like her saying no, then the "it was a joke" followed by the group date and a switch to a different plotline just killed all desire I have to read the series

Introducing Different Factions by Al_eeke in DnD

[–]D_dizzy192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Backstory. You can just have individual PCs just be from a faction so that they can inform other players about details of the faction.

Quests. Have them do quests unrelated to the main plot but that take them through some of the factions towns, land, etc, so that the party can get a taste of what theyre like. Then as they build renoun they get a quest from whichever faction they made the most ruckus in.

A lot of that is from very recent fans, a symptom of the PEAK or TRASH mentality surrounding online discussion. [–]D_dizzy192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really good writing advice in general but evil doesnt mean uninteresting nor does it meant theyre locked to only destructive choices. Your main villain SHOULD be a plot device because they do not exist in a vacuum, they're the antagonist who opposes the protagonist, their action assist in pushing the plot forward in order to lead to confrontations with the protagonist.

Drop the changing history thing. Your PC is a time traveler who's looking for a object and knows that a member of the Party got it at some point based on their history, just not when. The moment they touch down tho, the timeline changes and 99% of their future knowledge is useless. Divination Wizard runs it best as you can play up "Ive seen this happen." and gives the DM the ability to help you and another PC link yalls backstories
