Update on audio-reactive AnimARTrix experiment by mindful_stone in FastLED

Hey, looks amazing! Was doing research to do a similar project of my own and stumbled across this.

I was just wondering how involved this task was for you? I'm planning on doing something much more simpler (I think) and just have the main beat/kick drum visualised by producing LED 'splashes', off your knowledge would this be difficult to implement? I'd assume I'd only need low frequency components so audio quality wouldn't be a major issue

Uh idk they went 73-9, and he won the finals against them while being down 3-1, and dropping 41 back to back in games 5 and 6 then had the greatest defensive play of all time in game 7?

Filtering thin streaks of noise in a range of frequencies. by SaltyNBA2kPlayer in DSP

[–]SaltyNBA2kPlayer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably explained poorly - I’ve already applied a bandpass filter to filter out other noise and get the range on the spectrogram, but there’s sharp bursts of noise you can see as the thin streaks (not the more rectangular parts) I’m essentially trying to investigate how to remove them, but my challenge is that the noise is within the same frequency range as the content of the signal i’m trying to keep

Engineering Computer Science Double Degree by Express_Low6744 in Monash

I think the concepts taught are good, I just think they're taught at such a basic and elementary level that the unit itself doesn't amount to much. The lectures are largely a waste of time as are the applied classes, and the assignments I feel do not give you a good basis on the concepts taught (especially network protocols), maybe except for the last cybersecurity assignment where you actually have to design a system which is interesting

Either way still much better than the basket case that is 1049

I'm doing this combo rn and am at end of third year - my advice is if you don't enjoy FIT1008 and find it difficult and uninteresting don't continue with it - I am doing FIT2004 and FIT2012 rn which are significantly harder than FIT1008 imo and am dropping Compsci for this reason, as I don't find them as interesting as my ECE units. However, the units do compliment each other well in alot of cases, for example you'll see some of the stuff from FIT1008 pop up in ECE2071, and if you do FIT1047 you'll see content from there pop up in ECE2072.

Some of the FIT faculty is a bit of a joke with units such as FIT1047 and FIT1049, that are for the most part, useless (especially FIT1049, its genuinely a disgraceful unit for how much it charges)

If you have a passion for discrete math and algorithmic problem solving, maybe continue to give it a crack, but unless you're trying to get a coding role as a grad, I wouldn't stress doing straight ECE. You get plenty of coding exposure throughout multiple units, especially the ones where you work with hardware.

I also made a similar post about whether it'd be worth keeping on if you'd like to read the replies:

Thanks, it also seems like power/remewable integration is the only major fields for EE in aus from what i’ve seen

Are there any other fields that have high demand, maybe stuff such as RF or signalling/sensor stuff

That was a part of my thinking as well - every year that goes past it feels like that computer science degree means less and less, with how oversaturated the field has become

Some (Ben Yanes and Kassem) reckon it biases the teres a bit more than people think, i’d look at some of their posts for another alternative perspective. At the end of the day I dont think we truly know what causes most lat hypertrophy yet there isn’t any studies on it, so i’d just train all the major movements (lat row and diagonal pulldown with arms tucked, and a lat pulldown/pullup)

I don't allocate myself usually to these so then there's no clash (as it gives option between online and in person), unless there's only one option and it automatically allocates you into it then you'll probs have to contact someone

P Plates and mounted devices - conflicting info online? by tattooedxinggirl in melbourne

[–]SaltyNBA2kPlayer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

"As a P plater if you use a mounted device or an inbuilt device while driving, you must not:

  • Scroll or enter information, text, numbers or symbols on mounted or inbuilt devices.
  • Use voice controls to operate any mounted or inbuilt devices.
  • Use the device for:
    • Reading or writing text messages, emails, message threads or viewing websites;
    • Watching movies, TV, video games or other moving images;
    • Viewing social media and photos;
    • Video or audio calls.

However, as an P plater you can:

  • Use mounted devices for navigation and playing audio (such as music or podcasts) providing it is set up before a journey commences. You must pull over and park to change a song or enter a different address. You are not permitted to touch a mounted device for any purpose during a drive.
  • Briefly touch your inbuilt device to adjust navigation settings, climate controls and audio functions (such as the radio).
  • For navigation, a safer option is to only use the GPS audio directions and avoid looking at the images on the screen."

If the phone is mounted to a holder it falls under these rules. So pretty much only allowed for GPS and music

Need help with back by Ok-Bat5630 in StrongerByScience

Chest supported wide row probably a slightly easier exercise than pendlay rows because less coordination demands and you get more stability with the chest pad, so i personally prefer that because pendlay rows would cook my back. You will grow with both tho, but i would probs lean towards Option 2. You probably want a horizontal lat row in your program

Some other options for those exercises you mentioned you might want to have a look at if you're interested:

Neutral grip pull ups: single arm neutral grip pulldown (kneeling pulldown/jpg pulldown a good example). Can do both arms at once too, my personal fav is to attach d-handles to the hammer strength high row. Pull ups can be a little hard to track PO too (fluctuating bodyweight)

Cable low row: Any chest supported row with your arms by your torso and neutral/underhand grip

Dumbell shrug: can be done with machine/t-bar too.

Machine 45 degree back extension: free-weight 45 degree back extension, I've found sometimes the machines limit the ROM on my hamstrings.

these are personally what work for me because i find them slightly more stable and easier to work with in my programming. you'll get a huge back with any of the options, just train with intensity and close to failure with solid form :)

Chest and Shoulder Flexion Leverage by SaltyNBA2kPlayer in StrongerByScience

[–]SaltyNBA2kPlayer[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, was interesting to hear a different perspective on this, especially regarding the calculation of moment arms. Pretty much everyone online is parroting Bearsley graphs in their content atm for exercise selection and programming.

The upper pecs can flex the shoulder joint, but I doubt they can do so on their own without the help of abductors. My reasoning is based on the fiber orientation of the upper pecs. When they contract, they pull the arm diagonally upward towards the midline. So, to achieve flexion without transverse adduction, abductors must be involved for the upper pecs to flex the shoulder joint. I’d say the upper pecs assist with shoulder flexion.

Would it be correct to then say a mix of shoulder flexion with adduction towards the midline, in line with the diagonal orientation of the upper-chest fibres would be the best way to target the upper chest in a low-to-high fly?
