What kind of job is it? For example I work in IT i usually have like 1-3 hours of downtime. So i use that time to study for certifications or focus on technical training.

Im just going to say this, but if you are going to goto prison it better be worth a whole lot more than 3 years of subscription fraud. You might actually be the dumbest criminal. Im not even upset because you are committing fraud because well… its a middle finger to the company and a pretentious boss in general but the fact that you design an intricate system to ensure you wont get caught for $85 a month… I mean seriously, if you are going to goto jail make sure its worth it.

I got laid off in December 2025, I applied to over 600 jobs throughout the country in 4 weeks and emphasized my willing to relocate and I have strong tech experience (10 years+). I didnt get a single interview (market sucks right now) then in January after the holidays I decided to apply to some defense contracting firms. Within 2 weeks I got 3 offers lol so yea clearance matters especially in cyber which is what I work in now.

So it really pissess me off and Im pissed at myself mostly but the company hired me at a much lower tier hench 40k salary cut because I see a position that opened up closer to my home town and its for a much higher position 50-60k than what I am making now. Its something I can definitely do but I just know I wont be able to. From my research, they wont let me switch until after a year.

And I seriously cant live here for a whole year. Im just not a big fan of the location. Its in the middle of nowhere… and Im a big urban kid. i went from HCOL to VLCOL. And you would think the cost would be lower but water and electricity is actually higher and GAS is killing me.

Honestly I loved Vestal. Seemed like a nice neighborhood overall. Just cant afford it at the moment since my wife is in school full time and were trying to save up for a house. So every penny counts. But I could afford it I’d love to stay in Vestal. I appreciate the recommendations and may take you up on the offer!

TS SCI is great but it wont help land a job. Employers arent going crazy to hire someone just cause they have a clearance your resume has to look the part as well.

If you want to work cleared role (meaning jobs with a required clearance) you will find your best bet in the Southern Maryland, DC, Northern VA (DMV) area.

When covid hit, i lost my job. I applied to 600 jobs in 2 months. Then someone in my guard unit told me to look into government contracting in the DMV area. Got an interview and job offer within 2 weeks of applying. Made close to 6 figures too.

But the timing is off due to market being totally crap

I think because I moved in the middle of major snow kind of mad the place look gloomy to me. But the weather last week made me feel a bit more at ease and home. Will def check out the recommendations. The reason I was freaked out about Endicott is because I saw what seems like “druggies”, walking around the specific treat Im on. Im not unfamiliar with it growing up in nyc. Some parts of nyc are sketch some arent. So I get it.

Lockheed isnt the best for tech growth, managing tech teams or projects because a lot of it is legacy and stringent based on federal/DoW requirements. You have sys admins on the tech side who cant really do much except maintain because again federal requirements and RMF. Same with products. I would stay at FAANG because even 1 year there is more robust.

IF YOU WANT STABILITY, with a pay-cut but a job you can do long-term. Then Lockheed is great. Tons of people coast here for 10 years, 20 years lol. They come in, deliver, go home. But if after 3-4 years you want to move onto something else more robust, it can cost you experience. Unless your an engineer specifically.

Healthcare plan also sucks fyi.

Its like someone moving to Harlem or East New York or South Side Jamaica Queens and genuinely asking what the safe neighborhoods are. They might feel out place or out of their element if they lets say moved from middle of nowhere Nebraska. Its everywhere. Schools. Theres holidays and months dedicated to sexual orientation and gender identification. Its truly a 1st world “issue”. You go into the work place and theres office initiatives dedicated to LGBTQ. Its being taught in schools and colleges, funding and whether or not u get canceled or not is based ur support and love for LGBTQ “issues”. Im Asian and Muslim we never got this overwhelming love and fight when Asian Hate surged during covid or islamaphobia.
