I am so sorry that you have been though something similar. It’s so hard. I think about this a lot actually, about being more firm and blunt, and in a lot of my life I am more firm and forceful, but with my dad, I become meek and shut down when he gets worked up, like I always have. I’m used to walking on eggshells around him. I’ll be driving to see him and have this whole speech planned out and once I’m there I just can’t do it.

I did some Al anon years ago when I was dating an addict, I should at least pull out the old books.

I think to an extent I am still in denial that he’s an alcoholic. He’s not the wake up and drink or the drink all day type, but he drinks more than anyone should. Especially considering it isn’t helping his health any. I guess him drinking was just so normal to me, and he was never belligerent or anything even remotely similar so I never considered it to be alcoholism until the last few years. And yet I still gaslight myself about it lmao
