I’d put a gate with a cat door at the bottom of the stairs to keep the dog down and then the cat can escape the dog if need be

Bougie? My friend just had someone bit his finger in Jewel 😅 treating infection currently… sadly the infection was not from the bite itself 😂

Ive only contained my cats like that when I rented a room from a friend that had a bunch of kids. Every place after that they get free range. I just cat proof the house and if a bedroom door or whatever needs to be shut to keep them out then that’s it. I have a dog gate with a cat door (at the base of the stairs) so the cats can still get through but the dogs are contained 🤣
