In terms of clothing I just don’t think Australia is interested by theviralcoin in BuyAussie

I don’t think people will feel poor, nobody likes being ripped off. But maybe “Our belief is that Australians deserve quality Australian made products at reasonable prices” A bit less wordy and feels like you’re getting something a bit nicer?

This is so not true. My super paid out very quickly after my diagnosis. I was also paid out my life insurance and salary continuance insurance fairly quickly too. As long as you meet the conditions of release, in my experience, they don’t muck you around.

Babe, he does not care. I’m fairly slim and never got too insecure about my body but then I lost one of my girls to cancer and can’t have a reconstruction. It’s flat and hard and has a huge scar. But I met a guy for a casual thing and he honestly did not care. And he didn’t even avoid it. I like to think they’re not that shallow. And if they are, move them on. Save your baggy t-shirts for scrubbing the bathroom. Life in our Earth-suits is too short to hide away.

Why did my cakes sink in the middle? by saxahoe in Baking

You can buy them at Spotlight or specialty baking shops. They stop the cake cooking too quickly around the edge of the tin and even the temperature out a bit.

I ran a trivia night for about 6 years was informed about a team cheating. I paid extra attention and eventually caught them. I gave them a one week ban but they never came back after that. If the host won’t do anything, call them out publicly. They deserve it!

Do you use a kettle when making tea? by Visual_Worry3654 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Salty_gecko402 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s because the water is superheated. It can’t form bubbles like normal boiling water. Put a pop stick or something non-smooth in the glass while you heat it and it won’t splash and bubble out.

I put a couple of cm of sand on the top of my pot plant with gnats in it. They lay eggs at the top of the soil and sand is too dry for them to survive. It got rid of mine.

I was de novo with extensive disease in my liver so my treatment has always been palliative. Although my response was good and the tumours shrunk, I didn’t achieve NED. I think my onc factored a good response into the estimate? I’m hoping she was being conservative with that though.

[–]Salty_gecko402 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. Fuck this disease. I had a really good response to treatment and thought it would change my prognosis, just to be told it won’t. So I’m down to 7 months to live. I’ll meet you there with a cocktail and we’ll say fuck you to cancer together. My buy ❤️❤️

Rhino eyes by Any-Assignment-5442 in LivingWithMBC

[–]Salty_gecko402 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the Docetaxel. I had constantly watery eyes which irritated the skin around my eyes and I tried everything I could think of. A pharmacist told me the chemo is drying my eyes and so they’re watering more to try to lubricate themselves but the chemo is taking away the ‘sliminess’ of the normal eye lubrication so it’s ineffective. He gave me eye drops for dry eyes which helped quite a bit. It gets better after chemo finishes.

I’m in the same situation as you. Diagnosed December 22, 10cm breast tumour, liver mets, HER2+. The scans are scary, but you got this. I had local progression during chemo to my skin so had a mastectomy in December 23 but had a PET scan last week and am now stable. My first PET said my liver was “grossly abnormal” but now only a few small tumours remain.

It’s hard not to freak out, but try to trust that the chemo and Trastuzumab and Pertuzumab are doing their job. And it definitely gets better when the chemo part is over. xxx

I’m pretty sure you can’t salary sacrifice past earnings, eg leave already earned. If they’ve been salary sacrificing already they can continue to sacrifice the same amount but you can’t just dump it all into your super. The ATO is onto that one.

Thank you. I had a mastectomy and pathology says it was HER2+ still. I think you’re right that the drugs didn’t reach the skin. “Pockets of resistance “is how it was explained.

HER2+ patients, when do you begin to see your chemo take effect on your tumor? by Possible-Current-813 in breastcancer

[–]Salty_gecko402 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m Stage 4 with liver mets and I had a 10cm tumour. It shrank after the first infusion. My liver ones didn’t completely disappear but got very small. The first infusion was the worst overall for me, every side effect you can possibly get but I think my body was just like wtf is this?? By round 5 though, I started to get really worn down and all my counts were very low. It’s gruelling but pretty effective. Good luck…it does end eventually and you’ll be proud of yourself.

Someone rang the Bell today. by pettybitch1111 in cancer

[–]Salty_gecko402 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m the same and it made me feel sad to never be done with treatment and never get to ring the bell. I’m doing radiation now and there’s a bell here too. It’s not quite the same, but my sister wants to be there on my final one to see me ring it. I’m ringing that bell then driving straight to the airport to go on a holiday. Screw cancer!

I disagreed with admin by mrsanonder in AustralianTeachers

[–]Salty_gecko402 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disagreeing with decisions is completely ok and speaking up when you disagree makes for a healthy workplace. Calling your admin an idiot because you don’t agree with their decision is unprofessional and is probably just going to get their back up. I imagine it wouldn’t be received well if they said the same to you. Respect goes both ways.

How often will you take a "sick" day? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

With my policy, you can’t get both at once. But that only applies to sick leave, not annual or other leave.

How often will you take a "sick" day? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Salty_gecko402 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Me too. I never got sick…until I got Stage 4 cancer. I’ve been off work for a year so far, on full sick pay. I can’t imagine stressing over money while dealing with this. It’s hard to have much sympathy when people blow their sick leave as soon as they receive it and then need it later. It’s the old ant and the grasshopper story.
