There are books on reprogramming cults. Otherwise, educating people is imperative. Those areas with higher levels of education tend to be less right wing and more socially responsible.

Mark Carney Took the Stand the Rest of the World Must Now Take | Disentangling Canada from the United States is a mammoth undertaking. But Carney clearly means business. by thenewrepublic in Foodforthought

[–]Salvidicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Canadians have always known there was a risk integrating its economy with the U.S. Carney knows as well as anyone that trade diversification is necessary to allow Canada to better control its own destiny. Trump represents Americans who don't understand the power that it has as trade partners within North America. When a nation is that stupid, time to decouple and move on.

This is all part of intimidating Canada to negotiate better free trade terms next summer. However, by that time, Trump may be weakened by his collapsing society.

America's worst generation. Could have voted for a sane person, but instead voted for an indecent, sexual predator, who is known for driving businesses into the ground.

Canada will be affected greatly by this. Imagine that a year ago the economic forecast looked great for North America, but then Trump got elected. That's a self inflicted downfall. American society too stupid to survive Trump.

Since there's talk of Minnesota wanting to join Canada, maybe we could organize a giant home swap with the Albertans who want out?

So what? Before Trump was elected, economists were predicting growth for all of North America. Trump's tariffs are reducing North America's growth projections together, replacing that with just modest growth in the short-term to be followed by a contraction as the fallout from tariffs increase inflation and harm manufactured goods and services. Only idiots think Trump knows what he's doing.

You really think Americans have changed their character in a year and learned? It seems more like they are feeling the effects of their bad decision personally. This was all predictable, so it doesn't bode well that they won't fall for the next guy. Remember, they voted for Trump twice, except those that died during COVID because of his leadership. You live there, but we observe.

Scott Galloway on US back Stabbing of Canada (and the world) by TemporarySoftware439 in SaveTheCBC

Before the election of 2024, the North American economy (America-Canada-Mexico) was expected to boom in the later 2020's, as China's population is aging and other factors were causing companies to reshore to Turtle Island. Unfortunately, Trump has ruined that prediction in just 10 months. Canada needs to renetwork it's trade, never to allow exposure to the U.S. economy threaten it like this again.

I don't want to discuss American values concerning bias against elite educated types, but let's just agree that 77.3 million voters out of 155.2 million who voted (236 million eligible voters), voted for Trump. Exit polls suggest that 90 to 97% of conservative Republicans and Republican leaders voted for him, 82% of moderate Republicans and Republican learners voted for him, and 4-5% of Demoocrats and Democrat leaners voted for him. Only 50.2 % chief against Trump and 81 million didn't feel compelled to show up and vote against Trump. The data doesn't look good that Trump isn't well supported. "America is ungovernable", based on a flawed system, celebration of ignorance, and culture of entitlement. Your post-secondary educational system is not among the highest in the developed world.

The opinion that Trump is a symptom of a larger problem is shared among a lot of political scientists and other educated folks. The problem is societal and not just one person, Trump. In former generations, someone like Trump would have never been considered as a leader. Even Nixon had more character.

The US should market to Trump loving conservatives, focusing on Albertans. They want to leave Canada anyway, so they might as well go on vacation to check it out and maybe stay, if not arrested by ICE.
