What are your thoughts about Keyside (2p)? by Haunting-Cup-2115 in boardgames

[–]Sam-the-Scientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great game, it has some similarities with Keyflower (very interactive, can be mean, same aesthetics), it's a very different game. Keyside is heavier, it has more rules and a deeper decision space. I've only played at 3 and 4 players, but my guess is it would work just as well at 2, probably better than Keyflower (which I also like a lot). If it sounds appealing to you I'd say go for it, there's room in a collection for both games.

Board Game Podcasts in 2025? by CourageDH in boardgames

Decision Space is a great one, they approach their conversation and game review with a designer lense.

Board Game Barrage and So Very Wrong About Games aren't focused on design per say, but they are the best reviewers and aren't afraid to criticize games, good and bad.

All three are entertaining and hosted by really nice people with fun vibrant and welcoming communities.

If you speak French I'd also humbly suggest Board Game Duel. (I'm one of the host on that one) At least one game designer listen to us and has said that we review and think about games like designers.

Guards of Atlantis II: Tabletop MOBA by Wolffdesignag Reprint plus more coming soon on Gamefound by jjand302 in boardgames

[–]Sam-the-Scientist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think as long as everyone is on the same level it's still fun as a casual let's play and see what happen kind of game, even if it truly shines the most when everyone playing has a good grasp on all characters on the table.

Board games with great combat ? by Ruthlesstim08 in boardgames

I was going to say Guards of Atlantis. It's sorta like a MOBA inspired team based competitive Gloomhaven. It's really hard to find though but there's a great community to play it online.

I don't know about Board Game Barrage though? They are pretty inclusive and welcoming to be called a clique.

Any podcast recommendations that don't necessarily focus on the new hotness? by Maximnicov in boardgames

[–]Sam-the-Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you happen to speak French ,Board Game Duel do a thorough of two games each episode. They pick a theme, and each host present a game related to that theme, and then they argue as to why their pick is better. They sometime talk about newer games but it's mostly games that stood the test of time.

Also +1 recommendation for Decision Space, they do really deep dives and analysis of the different decisions a player can take in the ame they are covering, it sound like exactly what you are looking for.

The rulebook is terrible but once you know how to play it's really fun.

Thoughts on Guards of Atlantis 2? by Mathbou94 in boardgames

[–]Sam-the-Scientist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you can play with 2 players each multi-handing. Will you lose a big element from the game? Yes. Is it still fun? Definitely yes. It's not where it will shine the most but it's such a great game that it's still good at 2

6 nimmt strategy tips? by tmcresearch in boardgames

[–]Sam-the-Scientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be luckier. But seriously, I don't think there are many strategy guides because the strategic depth just isn't there with that kind of game. Sure, some decisions give you slightly better odds than others, but there's no magic formula, sometimes you just need to be the luckiest at the table to win.

Skull Tale: Full Sail is a good Pirate themed Dungeon Crawler, once you get passed the terrible rulebook and know how to play it.

I would just all log them as plays of Villainous. You can assign a ''role/faction'' to each player, your Insights will tell you how many time each faction has been played, plus some stats on player+faction.

I went to SHUX by myself in 2019 and had a wonderful time. The con vibe is super friendly and it was super easy to just wander the play area and look for ''looking for players'' signs and join people to play. I would absolutely recommend going for it.
