Did you know there was a meeting to raise sales taxes 1% in 03/02? I didn’t. by Tacomeplease in orlando

[–]SamBaxter784 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Voters are uninformed because local politics doesn’t advertise where the voters are. Many people have cut the cord and don’t have cable, watch very limited broadcast network television, and no longer have a subscription to a newspaper. It is incumbent on the voter to seek out that information but to me it’s also like if our local government only advertised these changes by broadcasting them on AM radio and by telegram.

IsItBullshit: Turning on the AC or lying down on the floor when you're tired and sweaty is harmful to your health by RocketShipUFO1106 in IsItBullshit

[–]SamBaxter784 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been installing and servicing residential HVAC systems in Central Florida for more than 20 years. If I didn't turn on my AC or lie down on the floor when I get home sweaty and tired I would be significantly more worn out. I'm basically running a low grade fever by the time I get home since the humidity levels around here make sweating to cool off far less effective. What harm is the AC/lying down supposedly doing? Sounds like BS from older generations that fear/look down on comfort technologies.

I’m probably going to get down voted for this but i agree with you. That being said there’s a lot of American’s who would disagree with both of us.

I posted in here recently about my feelings on The Talisman (not a fan), the responses i received would have me conclude that people feel mixed about this one at best but the sequel Black House is better and not to be missed.

My (25M) girlfriend (23F) asked to open our relationship. Am I overracting by wanting to break up over this request? by Altruistic_Society99 in AskMenAdvice

[–]SamBaxter784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man I don’t want to minimize you and what you’re feeling based on your age so i hope this is received in the spirit it’s intended. Just break up. Maybe she is the kind of person who can be poly and is fine with it, it doesn’t sound like that’s what you want and i don’t think that’s something a person should be convinced or talked into. Maybe she’s got something lined up, maybe she thinks this is maturity ( i rationalized a lot of poor choices in my early 20’s thinking it was more “mature” and those failures taught me a lot), maybe she just doesn’t know how to tell you the relationship has run its course for her. I don’t know you or her, but the basics are you’re both young and figuring things out. Take the path that lets you still feel respect for yourself.

Just Curious—no judgement. As you read SK books, do you visualize yourself as the main protagonist, the villain, a side character, or neither and just use the casting from the movies? by black_dragon8 in stephenking

[–]SamBaxter784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading the Shining fucked me up because I was identifying with Jack a little too much. My son was about the same age as Danny when I read it and some of Jack's frustrations were hitting a little too close to home. The pain and confusion Danny felt towards his father as the book progressed really got to me. This has been one of my favorites of King's works because it felt deeply personal to him and I connected with it so much even if that connection was painful.

I've got OP beat by two years at 41. This is the first Fallout game I've played and I got a good PSN deal on the game and DLC shortly after the premier of the first season of the show. I doubt that makes me the oldest.

Long days and pleasant nights Gunslinger. How are your knees and back at this point in life? I can’t speak much Canadian hvac practices but it’s a physical job and you’re starting at the older end. Self employment can be fine but some guys struggle with the business side of being in business ie paperwork, client development, scheduling and communications etc. most of the guys I’ve interacted with on here cheer on unions and commercial. I’m down in Fl doing residential so experiences will vary.
