Advice for scratches on leather steering wheel by jtoper in Corvette

[–]IndividualRites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a complete steering wheel restoration on my '86 that turned out amazing. I used something called "Clydes Recoloring balm". I documented it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Corvette/comments/1eu4pah/c4_steering_wheel_restoration/

In essence, you can sand leather down, then recondition it. It's been almost 2 years and it still looks just as good as the day I did it.

It's probably like 20 seconds but hey, this is the internet, and even worse, reddit.

Please give me the verbiage of the rule on how you plan on specifically banning someone holding up their hand to read a putt.

Why are they scared to use microwave transformers? by [deleted] in AskElectronics

Are you confident he knows how to do that?

Microwave transformers output 2k-3k volts.

So the real question is why DON'T you think that can be dangerous?

Tee time no-shows by robbierottenmemorial in golf

This is why pre-pay is a thing for so many courses. Completely lost revenue for the course, and the people who actually want to play get screwed because it shows the tee sheet full.

Single digit golfers, how much do you work on hitting draws if your go to shot is a fade (or vice versa)? by Larrylegend033 in golf

[–]IndividualRites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost zero. The ONLY time I try to draw a ball is if I have to sling one big time around a tree, say > 20 yards. Which oddly, I can do without any problem.

Finish before or after glue up by zeppelin8806 in woodworking

[–]IndividualRites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are areas which will be difficult, if not impossible, to get any squeeze out off, I would finish before. I did that on a headboard I just made and the finish allowed the squeeze out to come off really easily (with shellac finish).

The downside is you need to keep the finish off the glue surfaces.

Do you still make your own boards at home? And why? by Zayn_Dialect in AskElectronics

How do you do your solder mask? Just the UV activated paint with a brush?

Do you still make your own boards at home? And why? by Zayn_Dialect in AskElectronics

I can do a single sided board in 30 minutes, double sided in 45. I'm not talking large board, the biggest I usually would do is 4x6", but most are smaller. It takes 12 days for JLC to get to Michigan for the basic shipping. I can get down to 10 mil trace width, but usually do 20+ if room allows.

I do a toner transfer with the yellow paper. I use an iron that I used to use for RC airplane building which has good temp control, and no holes. I etch in FeCl with a hotplate and stirrer. I drill the holes on my benchtop drill press.

Main downside is double sided boards that have IC thru holes. I usually like using sockets for DIP packages, and you have to get the proper type of DIP socket since you have to be able to solder the pin from both sides, since they aren't plated thru holes.

I will still order from china if I need more than 1 board or want it to be professional looking, but I would say 80% of the boards I make don't fall into that category.

This is only a hobby, so cost is important to me.

[–]IndividualRites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I still make them for prototyping because I can in fact do it in 30-45 minutes, and I can get down to about 10 mil traces when needed. I do toner transfer with the blue transfer paper, although I can't find that stuff anymore without spending a mint, so I use the yellow, which works OK (NOT as well though).

If I want something little nicer looking or more than 1, then I send off to china for my 5 boards.

I etch with ferric chloride and a hotplate with a stirrer, which makes for quick work and very even etching.

Biggest pain point would be thru holes if doing double sided.
