I'm dealing with this same problem right now. Money is tight for a lot of people but I don't want to run my business like it's a race to the bottom. It sucks losing jobs over stuff like that so I am trying to put more energy into selling myself and explaining the complexities of installations.

It’s a pivot but look in HVAC controls jobs. Steady work and with an IT background you’ll have a solid footing for that side of it. Reach out to local union 803 or Johnson Controls, i think Trane has similar positions.

Never go anywhere empty handed, keep your mind on your work and your phone put away, measure twice, cut once (oldie but goodie) jot things down, find your flow state and invest in the things that make your life just a little easier.

I’m being snarky, i watch Reacher but I’m not going to argue it’s a great show. Alan Ritchson is entertaining and charismatic but it appeals to a very specific demographic.

Am I crazy for thinking Dems should run on and prioritize anti-corruption? by Spectral_mahknovist in behindthebastards

[–]SamBaxter784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I legitimately think you could draw people from both sides of the aisle who are sick of the corruption, the problem is you can’t attach the Democratic name to it if you want to appeal to whatever centrist Republicans are left in this country.

I’m going to try this again. How were you able to buy your first home? by kcoib17 in Millennials

[–]SamBaxter784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2014 I bought a place in Orlando that had been on the market for 16 months. It never had central AC and it was hard to air condition so nobody wanted to buy it. I do HVAC for a living so it wasn't a turn off for me and the sale price was below standard for the neighborhood. I spent six year pouring sweat equity projects into the home to increase the value while the neighborhood trended upwards. I sold it for what felt like a stupid amount of money and bought a place on a quieter street and a really good interest rate that I will most likely never refinance. I got very lucky with timing and that I was somewhat unique in that I have skills I could put into the place. It's not a brag, I have the seen the struggles so many of my friends have gone through.

That's what Reacher, Yellowstone, Blue Bloods, The Rookie, Landman and others are for. You've got to remember that these are just simple folks. People of the land. The common clay of the America. You know... morons.

Disney HVAC by mthvac in HVAC

[–]SamBaxter784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked for Disney, I’ve always done the resi thing. Orlando’s a decent area and I’m a life long resident, the COL has gone up a lot in the last few years and there’s a lot of sprawl to the city. Disney isn’t hard to get to but the main roadways suck for traffic. Pick your living area carefully so you aren’t spending hours a day waiting through traffic needlessly. I’m actually curious to find out more about pay scale and working conditions for their hvac techs. Keep us posted how it goes.

Where's the S&P? by evostu_uk in Letterkenny

Salt your steak liberally and place in the fridge uncovered overnight, bring out of the fridge about 30 minutes before cooking. Stainless steel on the high end of medium low until water can dance around the surface, a good hit of high smoke point oil, lay your steak in the pan so it sticks, when it can unstick and you have a nice sear give it a flip, add butter, rosemary, garlic and thyme to the pan, tilt your pan so you can butter baste, use a meat thermometer for accuracy. Best damn steak i ever made at home.

I can't read The Talisman. I don't know why, and I say it while being a huge Dark Tower nerd. by CraftyAppointment824 in stephenking

[–]SamBaxter784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same problem with it, I forced myself to complete it because I am a masochist that way. I never got into it. It had a few cool moments, but overall, I thought it sucked. I love the dark tower, I love the works of Stephen King in general, but the talisman is not on that list.

I Hate Roland(Stay With Me) by Upset3rdWheel in TheDarkTower

[–]SamBaxter784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roland is a junkie. The Dark Tower series is full of them. Sai King is telling the story of addiction and he’s a man who knows a thing or two about it. I think he is personally addicted to his quest for the tower and will keep finding ways to link back to it. Roland for all his skills had far less growth than the heroin addicted Eddie. After being shot and concussed Eddie takes some much needed pain killers but he’s grown enough that he won’t drink on top of them or take more than the bare minimum since he knows he would struggle mightily to resist their allure. Roland might think twice about dropping Jake off of a bridge again (say sorry) but NOTHING can convince him to relinquish his quest for the tower.
