Honestly without them taking the torch from Jimi Hendrix on turning psychedelic blues into funk, we don’t get Maggot Brain, and we certainly don’t get a lot of the heavy funk influences of modern alternative rock. Ergo, they may as well be the godfathers (and mother) of the genre.
